so after much reading, i'm considering surprising my husband with a savanna view. My question is, has anyone ever requested this view and NOT seen any animals?

We had a room on Kudu trail and a room on Zebra trail and saw lots of animals out there. Even when walking down the halls of Kudu, whenever we passed by the overlooks, we could see animals out on the Sunset Savanna. I don't think you'll get a savanna room with NO animals, but they are free-roaming so they may choose to "hang out" wherever they please.;)

Has anyone used the in-room baby sitting service? I think it is Kids Nite Out or something like that. We have a 6 yr old and a 2.5 yr old. We would like to go to dinner and just have a couple of hours of "adult time". :cool1:

Thanks;)

Just dropping in to say Jambo!! :wave2: Looks like lots of people are headed to AKL soon - wishing everyone great weather and wonderful trips! :woohoo:

hopeforus-sorry I can't help with the in-room baby sitting service-we did use Simba's Club for a couple of hours and it went really well...:thumbsup2

I think though your little one is too young-I think you have to be 4?...

I am sure that if anyone would have good in room babysitters-that Disney would...:goodvibes

Good Luck!

Our trip is 9/8 - 9/16, me DD9 and DS6. I have a resort day scheduled for Saturday -- it looks like the kids will have lots to do with activities and the pool.

I see they offer BUSH CAMP for kids -- has anyone tried this for their kids? I'd love to read some reviews.

I love this spot!!!! Reminds me of when DD12 had to get all her homework done before we left..this is where she did it!!!

I have a quick question for the AKL experts:

As mentioned earlier, DH and I are taking a long weekend at the AKL to celebrate our 20th anniversary and have booked a standard view with a great deal through AAA. Our final payment on the package is due on the
9th. When paying it yesterday, I mentioned to the agent, again, that we would prefer a poolview if it was now available with the special pricing that we booked for our standard room. It winds up that the additional cost to our 3 night package would go up about $100. (We had tried to book a pool view originally, but it wasn't available for the special rate, so we booked standard.) Our TA has noted that it is our 20th anniversary and that we would like a non-parking lot view on the reservation.

...So...should we just pay the $100 to make sure that we don't get a parking lot view? We'll only be there 3 nights, and we do plan on touring quite a bit. It will be hot and rainy in late July/ early August, so I'm not sure how much time we'll be out on the balcony. What do you think?

And for my 4,000th post, these would be the "standard" view rooms you DON'T want to get
(they are along the walkway to the buses):

Congrats on 4,000!! And those are the very reason I would never book a standard view room at AKL. :sad2:

And I have a different question. I have the chance to upgrade to AKL with a 40% off code. But the budget will only support a standard room. I don't really care about the view, but I do care about the noise. Are the standard rooms all on the way to the bus? And are they really that loud?

I guess it really depends on what is important for you, but in your situation I personally would keep the standard room and spend the 100$ on a romantic dinner. :goodvibes It sounds like the view is not so important for you on that trip anyway...

I think there are rooms that are noisy and others aren't. While I have never stayed in a standard room, I was always amazed how we never heard any pool noise in our pool view room as long as the door to the balcony was closed.

We're not going back to WDW for a year and a half, but I mentioned to my husband that I thought it would be nice to stay at AKL for two days at the beginning of the trip to take the Sunrise Safari and go to AK for the day, then switch to the Poly. He agreed very quickly. Which sort of shocked me. Since we'll be a party of 5 at that point (DS turns 3 about 1 1/2 months before our trip), we'll have to get a suite and go CL. I'm insanely excited, since I wanted to stay at AKL the very first time I considered taking a vacation to WDW.

Wow, what a wonderful start to your WDW vacation!! Have a great trip!! :goodvibes:goodvibes

Hi Folks! It's been a while!

Just booked 5 nights in July at AKL with a great rate for standard view. The last time we were at AKL was in July 2006 when we had an out of this world stay in the Royal Asante Suite. There were 8 of us that time and we did everything imaginable (Wanyama Safari, Sunrise Safari, you name it). This trip is VERY different.

We've had a rough year. DH lost his job but thankfully after 4 months he found another one. Both of his parents died within 13 days of each other and the company that I work for was sold. We are finally back on track but of course are still tightening up in order to catch up from the four months of only one income.

Anyway, I asked my 8 year old what he would like to do for a quick summer vacation trip and he immediately said AKL! I know it will be very different from before but I'm not even going to worry about it. I figure a parking lot view at AKL for 5 days is going to be better than most anyway. I know we'll be happy to be able to sit in the lobby and on the outside decks and just enjoy watching my son see the animals.

Glad to be going back!

Hi, everybody! :cool1: I've been reading, but have had just a crazy couple of weeks in RL home and at work. Congrats to all those going to AKL soon!

We leave tomorrow  -- not AKL but Pop this time. But, we are having breakfast at Boma one day, so I'll try to take pictures and give an AKL report when I get back. See ya!!! :woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:

kimmar -- I'm throwing in a penny in every fountain I can for you to get back to WDW as soon as possible!!!!!

Hi everyone!! We are back home, but I'm up to my eyeballs in paperwork (bills mostly!) so it will be several days before I post pictures and tell y'all about our AKL/AKV stay!! (yes, kimmar, I brought back some Zebra Domes just for you, but I know you'll share! ;))

Congrats on the upcoming AKL stay. Room location is not nearly as important as just BEING THERE!!! :yay:

Hopefully, you're all done with the negative stuff and things will be better from here on! :thumbsup2

Hi YCFAN :wave2: Congratulations on your trip. I'd take your standard view room in a heartbeat vs. my NO ROOM this summer :sad1: Enjoy! AKL is so magical :cloud9:
