I asked this on another board and haven't gotten an answer yet, so I figured I'd ask over here........
How long does the Sunrise Safari take (including the breakfast buffet) generally? We're schedule for 8/16/09. We're rope-drop commando type people and I would hate to be finished so late that we blow our plans to hit the BIG rides first.............
Thanks,
Erin

You will not be finished before park opening. And, while the Safari itself is wonderful, an important part of the whole experience is the buffet breakfast after. The guides eat with you and it's a great opportunity to talk with them and get lots of wonderful information! :thumbsup2

What many families do is send one runner to get the EE FP's!! The timing usually works out so that they can make it back in time just as everyone's ready to eat!

I really think if your family wants to rush through it just to get to the rides, you'll miss the real beauty of the entire experience. :flower3:

I have to agree with RachelTori about the timing. We actually changed our plans so that we'd have another morning at AK so that we wouldn't be nervous and upset during the SS. Even if we had skipped the breakfast, it was too late to have been the first people on ANY ride, and we were on the first bus to finish the safari.

Like you, we're "rope-drop commandos", but not the all-day kind. The SS is worth messing up one morning's plans, IMO. If you prefer, you could always book the WDE for concierge guests at any resorts, but you'd miss out on the lovely breakfast. The WDE runs at 10am and 1pm, I believe.

Saw this elsewhere and I didn't get an email about it:

New Disney Visa Free Dining Offer! - Disney Visa cardholders booking a special Magic Your Package at a WDW Value Resort can receive the Disney Quick Service Dining Plan FREE! Moderate resort guests and above can get the Regular Dining Plan Free. This offer is limited and valid for travel from 09/27/2009 to 12/17/2009.

Out of total curiosity, is there a minimum number of nights required for the deal?

In reality, after much thought the last few days about changing a couple of my DVC nights during December to a non-DVC resort using the AP discount, I have decided to leave my reservations as they are. So, I will be keeping my 11 nights at Kidani in December instead of doing a split stay.

I really don't know, Roberta. I never got the email, but more info is available on mousesavers.com

kimmar , can you tell DH he can have fun sitting on his chairs while you have fun sitting on a chair by the pool at AKL? (kidding of course)
:)

Tonight we went to our weekly free Friday Night Wine Tastings at a local wine bar. The featured winery was Warwick from South Africa. We have had their wines often at AKL. The rep was fascinating to talk to and we discovered that the AKL account is the largest one the winery has in the US. I thought that was an interesting note. The wines were delicious, as usual too!

I agree with you too. I booked our Christmas trip this morning at POFQ, not AKL because the AP rate of $124 was just too good to pass up. The money we save on the two rooms for 8 nights will pay for Christmas Eve dinner at Victoria & Albert's! I am all for mixing it up for a very good reason. :)

great deal ;)

cant wait to sing Bing's songs with you! Ok I will lip synche....

::yes:: (and you spelled it correctly!) When we tasted the first red Kristin looked at me and said, "This would be SO good with those Kenyan Coffee Short Ribs at Jiko!" That is when Mr. Dare looked at us and asked if we were talking about the African-inspired location in Florida. :rotfl:

Here is what we had:

Warwick Sauvignon Blanc 2008
Warwick Three Cape Ladies 2004 (this was my favorite tonight)
Warwick Estate Reserve Red 2001
Warwick Old Bush Vine Pinotage 2006

And we brought home a bottle of the Three Cape Ladies for something different.

You have a deal. You teach her Jingle Bells and I will sing with her! And you can start with Laura in September too. ;)

Sounds lovely...looking forward to leaving my comfort zones of whites in Sept!

I have always seen the values and moderates do something special if theres a birthday. I was staying at POP last year and they put a card in the room with balloons. Now balloons are not allowed at AKL, but I can't seem to remember anyone saying AKL did something for their birthdays. My parents stayed here for their 25th anniversary and didn't get so much as a "Happy Anniversary" from the CM that checked them in. Have I made the wrong choice for my birthday trip? Does anyone have experience with these or photos of decorations or something?
