After discovering the Contemporary is booked, and the Poly is lacking in king beds, my hubby and I have decided to book a SV room at the AKL for our belated honeymoon. We've never stayed there (only value resorts so far), so we don't know the layout at all. Is there a building that's better for quiet and/or "romance" that isn't a suite or CL? We just want a basic room with a king bed and a view of the animals, that's not wildy noisy (from kids) if possible. When I call, is there a specific building name I should ask about? Our trip is 26 Jan -31 Jan (give or take a couple days depending on flights). Well out of the recent construction time frame I imagine.

Also, does mentioning it's a Honeymoon trip make a difference? I certainly don't expect anything as extravagant as a room upgrade, but does being on a honeymoon amount to any free goodies? I'll mention it regardless, but I'm kinda curious now :)

We found AKL to be very romantic. I think you'll love it.

Yes, definitely tell them it's your honeymoon. That's not a guarantee of freebies, like you said, but it doesn't hurt to let them know.

My only complaint about AKL was how FAR our room was from the lobby. I mean, it was really a trek! We had Savannah View, as well, in the Zebra Trail section - the VERY LAST room on the top floor. If you look at a resort map, you'll see how far that is. Not fun after walking the parks all day.

I never found any part of the resort to be noisy (very serene, in fact, except when you could hear the animals), so I would ask for a room close to the lobby -- perhaps in the Ostrich Trail section.

Good luck with your planning!

Animal Kingdom Lodge is Wonderful :)

I stayed there in May and I absolutly LOVED IT.

Although, our room was in the left side of it, in the very back so we had to walk around half a mile but it was still worth it. At least the walk was indoors.

I loved it and I cried when i had to leave

The beds are comfortable too

I LOVED AKL on our last trip, too! I was a little scared when booking - we'd eaten at Boma once, and I thought the resort was too dark. However, once we checked in, settled into the beautiful rooms, enjoyed all of the amenities, ate the food, and of course saw all of the animals, we fell in love with it! We originally chose it because it's the "cheapest" deluxe, and we'll definitely stay there again.

As far as location, I was also worried about it being "remote". However, bus service was wonderful; it's great because you don't share a bus with any other resort. We actually had better bus service at AKL then at the Beach Club, as we had a devoted bus.

There were a couple of honeymooners while we were there - they were all enjoying themselves!!!

AKL is great. My wife and I snuck away one weekend in Feb a couple years ago... get a room with a savanna view. It's romantic at night looking out across it... plus you've got a pretty good chance of waking up and looking out to see animals, we saw animals every morning... we liked relaxing by the fire pit and resting in the rocking chairs looking out over the savanna.

I stayed at AKL for my honeymoon in 2005 and i couldn't have asked for more. We booked with a TA in the UK and only booked a standard room. we were upgraded to a beautiful savanah room on the 5th floor becuase it was our honeymoon.

There is only 1 building so you dont have to worry too much about location but the building is BIG and it can be a bit of a trek to your room from the lobby or pool area but this didn't really bother me as there are animal look outs to keep you entertained all along the halls.

We ate at Boma and loved it. didn't try Jiko though.

The resort to me was very romantic. fairly quiet and we were never bothered by children at all - even by the pool.

We loved AKL so much that when we booked CBR last year we asked for a transfer back to AKL for our 2nd week as although CBR was nice, we had fallen in love with AKL. :cloud9:

You will have a lovely time there. enjoy it. i wish i could do my honeymoon all over again. :)

AKL is my favourite resort, I think it would be very nice for a honeymoon! After our stay there in February I wrote a review with pictures for the very friendly unofficial AKL-Thread (to be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=752192). My review and pictures can be found here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1484743

With regard to room requests, AKL is just one building, but with very long corridors. To see a map go here: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/aklmap.htm

I would recommend to request a view of Arusha Savannah (that is the one in the middle) as well as a quiet room. You might consider requesting Zebra trail as this will get you closer to the pool and the restaurants. However, I am not sure what the building schedule is like at the moment, which areas have already been converted into DVC Villas and which have not. Therefore stating aquiet room in your room request will most likely get you the best chance to be as far away as possible from any building works going on.

I think by January they might have started to build the seperate DVC building, this is why I would not recommend a view of Sunset Savannah (if you look at the map it's to the left of the building). Uzima Savannah (to the right of the building) is smaller and I think therefor not so much liked.

Hope this helps!

I would definitely ask for Arusha Savanna and the trail away from all the construction. Zebra Trail would be a good choice and if you use the stairs, you will definitely be closer to pool and food. Jiko is a fabulous restaurant so be sure to try it out!
