We left at 7:30 on Friday, the 24th. We knew the hurricane was heading for us. We just wanted to be there.....even a vacation with a hurricane is a vacation, right?
I hate to fly. Hate it, hate it, hate it. I'm not AFRAID of it, I just hate it. I think it's the lack of control or something. I always feel like the pilot knows something I don't. He knows something is wrong with the plane and we're going to die, but he's not telling us. Crazy, I know.
I took Friday off of work. Scott worked. Hey...he makes double what I make (yeah, the electrician makes double what the lawyer makes), so we decided I would do the last minute things like banking, buying things we had forgotten, etc. and he would go to work. I spent the day with the mom, which was nice. I hit the bank, bought some last minute items, watched All My Children and relaxed. I talked to Jen a few times. She leaves on Saturday. We talked about the hurricane and how Shaun didn't pack any socks. He insisted he was "all packed." She looked through his suitcase and didn't find a single sock.
So, she took his socks and put them in HER suitcase under all her clothes. When they got there and started unpacking, he realized he had no socks when he saw her socks and started whining. Then she pulled out his socks and he promised never to shoo her away from the packing again.
Anyway...as the time for the flight drew nearer, my stomach started doing flip flops.
I have chronic stomach issues and I was REALLY careful for the last 2 days about what I ate to avoid any problems. Didn't work. So, I popped an Immodium and a Xanax (OK, one and a half) and off we went to the airport.
I check in (tip the guy $10. so my two bags get there with me) and I go and sit at the gate. This is where I sit and look around for suspicious people. I don't know what I'm looking for, exactly. A woman looked a bit strange...she was talking to herself. Not really..I later discovered that she had a cell phone with an ear piece. Some little kid ran over my foot while pushing his own carriage. I figured I should get used to it since I was on my way to Disney! Now is about the time I start to think about Ally. Ally is my cat.
I love her more than life itself. I started to cry at the gate. I think it was the one and a half Xanax. I wanted to go home to my Al. I already missed my Al. What if she thinks I abandoned her? Then I get a call from Jen. She just dropped off her puppy at the kennel and was crying. So, here I am crying at the airport along with my best friend who is crying at home. Both our husbands are trying to shut us up. It was time to board, so the cry-fest had to end.
Next up...the flight down, the car rental and checking in (I'm leaving work now, so I have to end this here...be back tomorrow!)
