Can anyone tell me about the restaurants at AKL?? We are planning to visit AKL during our trip this Dec to check it out for a possible July 2005 stay.

Spicy food is quite difficult for us, does any of their restaurants have food that is not spicy (African)??

I am not sure if we will be there for breakfast or dinner yet.

We tried Boma. There was spicy food, but most of the food is "oddly" spiced, rather than "hot". Some cinnamon flavors in the meats, etc. It is a beautiful restaurant with wonderful CM's, but the food was not to our liking. We ate the pasta and meatballs from the kids' pod. But the desserts are to die for! I'd think of going again just to eat the desserts!

I agree with the previous post. The food is "differently" spiced, but not necessarily hot. I really do not like spicy food (swedish meatballs are about my limit) but I loved the flavors at Boma. I'd give it a try - with all the selections they offer, you're bound to find something you like. And the resort is absolutely beautiful.

Good luck.

ITA. The food is not 'spicy' in the classic sense, just seasoned differently then western palates are used to. I would recommend breakfast if you are not adventurous.

It now looks like we will be at AKL in the morning before going on to AK. What are the restaurant choices for breakfast??

Boma has a buffet breakfast (we did not try it) and Mara has counter service breakfast food which was pretty good. DS got the Mickey waffle which he couldn't finish, DD got the bagel sandwich and I got the kids breakfast meal which had eggs, biscuit, potatoes and bacon or sausage for $3.99. They also had cold cereals, fresh fruit and pastries...quick and easy.

BTW, the seasonings at Boma are more sweet than hot, with a greater use of cinnamon, tamarind, cumin but not spicy (I don't recall chiles being used). Lot's of yummy flavors!

Boma for breakfast is our favorite place to go. For 2 adults, it's only slightly more expensive than going to IHOP and it's a hundred times better.

They have "normal" buffet foods - waffles, danish, bacon, eggs, etc. They also have a few African dishes as well.

They have the best buffet I've ever seen and the CMs are great. The Frunch is also very good. It's several kinds of juice mixed together and is a sweet juice.

Since we eat there so often at breafast though we've never tried them for dinner. But to give you an idea, we stayed a week last time and ate there 3 days and wished we'd eaten there more often.
