Before I go any further, let me tell you all how much we enjoyed our stay at AKL. We were in room 5485 with a round balcony on Zebra Trail. Not the best view but it was okay. We also had a clear view of the spa on our side of the hotel and a view of the playground, some pool, and savannah. Kids were excited but we never saw giraffes. Really disappointed.
We did the Hoop Dee Doo on the 14th and had a wonderful time, as always. This is one of our favorites, no matter what. We do it all the time and the kids love it. My aunt thought it was great and we ate and ate.
By this time, I was curious about concierge and on our first night, during check in and with all the commotion after my dd threw up all over the lobby, I had asked what the difference was to upgrade and I was given a ridiculous big amount (almost $200 a night). So, I settled for my normal room.
A couple of days later I decided to go back to the lobby and ask again how much it would cost me to upgrade to concierge and was quoted, on my code booking, the upgrade was $50. I immediately asked if a room was available, and there was one, which I took without asking where it was. I ran back to our room, with my Aunt in tow, and in 10 minutes had everything repacked and we were on our way to room 5421 Concierge, near the Assante Suite. We had a beautiful view of the Savannah, Arusha Rock and as we exited our door, we had a view of the swimming pool. All in all, we were happy. My husband, who is one of those creatures of habit that doesn't like routines changed, told me that this was the best move and wished that we had done it from the first night. Loved it all and loved concierge service (Martha what a sweetheart she is; Jack was always pleasant and friendly; Don knew everything about money and prices).
I finally get to see the elusive giraffes. They are right under the balcony. Never saw them before unless I was walking through the hotel and they were grazing , but never near our room. What a thrill, since I love giraffes and they are so graceful.
We go to pick up our rental car and stop quickly at the Adidas store in one of the outlets and found a coat for my daughter. Brought back the receipt to concierge and got the $56 back that it cost me to buy it.
We did some other things and tried to relax since the kids were getting over their flu/viral disease.
My DH and DS did the SAS Tour at Epcot. I took the pics and they didn't come out and I left the video camera in our room. Oh, well things happen. They loved it and it was very exciting to watch them in the tank swimming with the fish and everyone thinking they were divers feeding them. They got a souvenir photo (1 each), a t-shirt and the memory of a lifetime. Was able to book it the night before as it is not well advertised. They do 12 people a day at 12:15 and it was DH, DH and another two people.
It was wonderful and I was very jealous that I was not there in the tank with them. DD chickened out.
Left our Legacy Photo in Epcot (part of our package) and proceeded to do more of Epcot. Kids had passports stamped, did face masks in all KidCot stations and saw plenty of characters.
Was not impressed with the Princess Breakfast (service was very slow and food was cold) and I thought that Mulan had no personality.
We went to Bongo's for dinner and were more than satisfied.
All in all it was a very wonderful vacation, lots of pics and great memories.
The rest of the time we spend househunting, found a beautiful home in a newly developed gated golf community consisting of 6 bedrooms and 3 full baths and now its a matter of waiting for our mortgage and closing and we will be in Fl sometime at the end of August.
A note, we were supposed to check out halfway through our stay at AKL and check into DoubleTree Guest Suites, but DH liked AKL so much that he cancelled the other and kept us at AKL.
Hope you guys can see these pics. If not, I'll try to load them up again.
