I will be accompaning my brother and his 3 kids in October. Right now we have 2 standard savannah rooms booked but there is a possibility of getting an AAA discount which would make the deluxe water view a little cheaper. Which is better? I know my nieces and nephew want to see the animals but it would be nice for them to have the extra room. Also, is it noisy with a pool view? What floors are the deluxe rooms on? One advantage I see to the pool view is that you couldn't be at the far end of the hotel with the long treks.

Any opinions appreciated.

hello,
you might get a better response if you go to the of the disney resorts and find the sticky that has all the different resorts.

DD and I have stayed in Deluxe Savannah and Regular Pool View rooms at AKL. Just the opposite of your choices, but still we understand the sizes and views. We both would pick the smaller rooms with the view of the animals. I will say that as pool views go, the AKL pool view is beautiful. We did not find it to be noisy at all and it was MUCH closer to the lobby, pool, Mara, etc. We were really far done a hallway when we had our savannah view. Still, the savannah view is something you can't get at any other resort and we loved spending time on the balcony each morning and evening and watching the animals.
According to Allears.net: The standard rooms are on floors 1-4 and are 344 square feet. Deluxe rooms are on floors 5 and 6 and are 381 square feet. All rooms have balconies.
If you do decide to go with the Savannah view, request the Arusha Savannah and ask to be not too far from the lobby. With wishes and prayers you may get this. Or you may even get an upgrade to Deluxe rooms...that's what happened to us! Best of luck! Either way, you are staying at THE BEST RESORT! Enjoy!

Savannah view! After all, isn't this why you wanted to go to AKL? :flower:

we stayed in a pool view in 2002. i found that the noise level was minimum. i also really liked staying near the pool, granted all the people in my family who came were older, my sister being the youngest, 14 at the time. we had a room that was on the second floor and close to the staircase which went to the pool area. it was nice to be able to see where our family was when they were at the pool from our balcony. we got our share of the animals by going down to the observation area behind the lobby, you could also look out the windows in the hallway on the floor you're staying on.

Savannah View, absolutely! It's THE reason to stay at AKL, IMHO. Yes, there are public viewing areas, but it is not the same as having your coffee in your jammies, watching the animals wake up & start to feed & roam. Or seeing them outside your window at night. I personally don't like the location & limited dining options of AKL, but we are going back JUST for the Savannah view experience.

Savannah View! Think of it this way: If you have a long trek, you're probably on what would be considered a "better" part of the Savannah. If you really want to be close to the main building, just request to be close to the main building.
