I am staying at AKL from Dec 3rd to the 10th. We have the savanahh view room and I have heard that they need to take the animals away from the resort during parts of the construction. Has anyone heard about this or know if this is true and if so when will they need to remove the animals. I don't want to go down there and pay the extra money for the view if the animals aren't going to be there.

thanks

I think that I read on a previous post and possibly on allearsnet that this will take place early next year and that all affected people will be notified prior to their visit and will be given back points if there are no animals in the savanagh view rooms

I too was concerned about the same thing for my upcoming trip in August. The previous poster is right and the animals will not be removed until January 2009 and guests will be notified prior to arriving if this does happen. I think it is safe to say you will not be affected by this:goodvibes

Hi Wilea - I read that it will be in 2009 when the animals are going to be taken off the savannah. We are arriving 12/4. Happy animal viewing!

I think the period is mid January to Mid April that the animals won't be in the savannah area.

Thats what I had read too, I just wanted to know if anyone had heard anything different. Thanks for your replies.

Well I guess then our plan to stay at AKL is out for our possible trip in March. I guess I have to start researching new resorts--dang, I LOVED drinking my coffee watching the animals eat breakfast!

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's only the Sunset savanna from which the animals need to be removed (since that's where the construction happens). This accounts for probably less than 25% of the savanna view rooms. The only official thing I remember hearing is that DVC members will have the point difference refunded if they end up in one of these rooms.

Not sure how it will be handled for resort guests, but I imagine it'd be a similar arrangement, with the price difference as a room credit, or something like that.

And according to some posts the animal keepers only anticipate having the animals off the Sunset Savanna for a short time. The 3 month period is to account for any delays in the construction, and to cover guest expectations. Animals will still be on the Arusha and Uzima Savannas.
