I am considering an AKL concierge room for Jan/Feb '03 (using DVC points).
There is not a choice of views that can be booked...only requested. I spoke with the AKL front desk, and I was told that there were only five or six rooms on the 6th floor that were pool view, and the rest on the 5th floor were savanah view. Also, all the pool view rooms were smoking optional.
I don't want to stay there with a pool view room. The CM said it would be unlikely to get a pool view unless I wanted smoking, but not guaranteed.

I just don't know if I should risk it, or book The Poly.
What are your opinions?

Thanx in advance

I'm trying to figure out what rooms to request too:D We leave on the 16th of July and I just added 2 nights at the AKL to the end of our 11 nights at WDW. I have been looking over the map every day and I still don't know what to request. It looks like there are a few on the 6th floor that face the Sunset Savanah? It would be nice to be up there by the lounge, but then you are further away from the animals. I don't know if there is much difference in the view between the 5th and 6th floor? I want to be close to the pool, but I don't want a long walk to the lounge? I did speak with someone from the concierge and told them with the young kids I didn't want to have to walk all over the resort to use their amenities. She suggested a room close to the lobby? I don't know what that view would be like if you were in the Arusha Savanah and close to the lobby? Would you see a bunch of people at the viewing area? Part of me thinks I should just wait until we are there and see what room we are assigned and if we like it fine and if not see if there is something else that is available? We are use to the way the Polynesian concierge is set up. I really like how everything is in one bldg. and it's not a long walk to get to the lounge. I know that you aren't guaranteed a Savanah room when you book concierge, but I have never heard of anyone not getting a Savanah view that requested one. You can always call the concierge and talk to them and let them know your concerns.

Maistre Gracey, there aren’t very many rooms on the 6th floor, as you were told. There are some concierge rooms on the 5th floor, as you were also told. That being said, I want to add that suites are also concierge rooms and they are supposedly found on every floor of the resort. I guess my point is that you should put your *request* in for a savannah view room on the 5th floor, as that will probably give you better odds of getting what you want. I hope that makes sense.
The AKL is my favorite resort and I have stayed there three times. Once on the 5th floor, and twice on different “trails” of the 3rd floor. All rooms were wonderful and all views afforded me the luxury of seeing animals at least a couple of times a day. If you decide to go through with your DVC AKL concierge stay, I hope it is magical. If you decide to stick with the Poly, I hope it is magical, too.

By the way, the trek to the concierge lounge during my stays was a piece of cake compared to some of my treks to the lobby of the BoardWalk Villas during any of my DVC stays! If you can handle the BWV, you can easily handle the AKL. This is all my humble opinion, and others' opinions, as it should be, will vary.
