My DH and I are checking in to the AKL on Saturday of this week--we are tranferring over from Portofino at US/IOA. We are planning to spend Saturday at IOA, then head to Epcot for an ADR at Le Cellier and illuminations.

My question is, if it were you, would you check in (well, drop off bags anyway) at AKL in the morning, or wait until after illuminations? We have paid for the savannah view, so are not trying for an upgrade, but don't really want to be over one of the people pens either (hopefully). We'll have FOL access at IOA since we are at Portofino, so thought that taking the time in the AM to check into AKL and drive back to IOA might not cramp our day too much. Mapquest says it is about 20 minutes each way between hotels.

What would you do?

It is a bit of a drive from Universal to Disney World but it's Saturday and I4 shouldn't be that bad. If I were you, I'd check into Animal Kingdom Lodge as early as you can. You'll handle all the paperwork and get your room keys. All you have to do is call back during the day and get the room number. No need to visit the front desk again. You'll appreciate that after your long day. Just make sure you have the map of Animal Kingdom Lodge so you can easily find your room.

Map to find your room LOL love it!

Anyway what’s a people pen? I have 2 deluxe savannah view rooms booked for Tuesday of next week for 11 nights and I hate to be above a people pen, give me a giraffe one any day ;) But joking aside if you paid for the deluxe savannah view surely you can’t get a bad room at that price?

Personally I would check in early in the morning to get a decent room. Even some of the Savannah rooms are not the greatest, we unfortunately got one of those. The view was not that great but we were eventually able to move but we had to wait for 2 days because they were full.

Don’t have a choice on that I am afraid, won’t land until around 8pm at night, so it will be able after 9pm before we get in. Last time in Wilderness Lodge we had a bog standard room (for a deluxe hotel so was actually ok room) that didn’t have any view but what it did have was a room close to the lobby making it easy to get in and out the hotel and was very close to the pool. That to me was a good room as long as you didn’t mind the lack of any view and the fact it could be noisy in the lobby but we didn’t notice at all to be honest.

But with AKL, it’s all about the view, that’s why I am paying a lot extra for the rooms.

Thanks, I will drive over in the AM and check in. 24 hours to go, whoo-hoo!
