We will be staying at the AKL for 2 nights on 2/28 and 3/1 and booked a standard view room. What are the chances I can get a comp upgrade to a pool or savannah room during this time period?I figured, with the hiring freeze, etc, maybe there was a chance but I figured someone on this board could give me a realistic answer. Thanks for the help.

We went to AKL from 2-7 to 2-11 and booked the standard view as well. They upgraded us to pool view for free. They didn't mention it and I didn't ask.

it's a great resort!

Thanks Pooh--I have 8 year old twins--DD and DS--Who have been bugging me nonstop about maybe getting a savannah view.I figured it might be a long shot.Got the standard view room for $189.00,which I figured was VERY good.BTW,we are staying at the SWAN for our final 3 nights.Never been, but also hear great things about that resort as well.We will be just one family(out of the many) that will be there to "escape" Mardi Gras here in Louisiana. You would be surprised just how much purple, green, and gold you see in the parks during Mardi Gras!!!

Welcome to the DIS!!

We stayed at the AKL on our last trip and were given the motherload of all upgrades.

We booked a Deluxe savanah room and a standard savanah room. My dad is in a wheel chair and we wanted to make sure that he had a view if he decided it was too hot or uncomfortable for him to get around. Turns out that they were doing some construction in our savanah so there would be no animals present (we never saw or heard of the construction once we got there). We were given a choice of keeping the rooms for our original price of $150 a night each, Concierge for $140 each a night more or standard view for $10 each a night more. I guess they heard the dissappointment in my voice. I told them I'd have to check with the rest of the family before i made a choice but before I could get hold of anyone they offered me the concierge level for the same price as our original reservations.

Bottom line we got two connected concierge rooms for $300 a night. A savings of over $500 a night over rack rates...we will NEVER see that discount again!!

On my honeymoon last July, we received a free upgrade. We had a std. view room, and we got a savannah view room. Never asked, and we were completely surprised by it. It was wonderful! :)

jdads - wow! How's that for some Disney magic! Too cool!

I think it also depends on the how busy it is when you are there. We booked the savannah view because we did not want to chance missing out. I have heard of people being upgraded for nothing, I have heard of people being upgraded for a small fee (around $10 a night) and I have heard of people not being upgraded. Hey.... it never hurts to ask ;)

I don't care that much about view so I would never ask for an upgrade but I booked a AKL standard view in early Feb and was upgraded to a pool view. I think the Lodge was relatively empty though.
