Are they worth the little bit more floor space you get? We are going mid-May and started off with SOG, then POFQ, then got a great AP rate for std. AKL room, then DH saw some pictures on-line of the bunk bed rooms. Called tonight and got the std. room switched to bunk bed room but now we are paying about $50 more a night. We have two young boys, ages 2 & 6, who I know will absolutely love the bunk beds but I really loved the higher discount on the std. room. The other plus, I suppose, with the bunk bed room is that it is pool view and so I know we won't have a parking lot view but I'm considering calling back and having the ressie switched back to std. view.

Anyone have any pictures or comments about the bunk bed rooms they'd care to share? TIA!

We really enjoyed our pool view, bunk bed room. More important than the extra space, and view is...how well do your boys sleep in the same bed? For our family, having separate beds far outweighed other issues. It is true that the bunk beds do provide "some" extra floor space. Interestingly enough the view of our "pool view" room wasn't as important as the location. Our zebra trail room was very convenient to the pool/hot tubs, The Mara, Jiko, children's crafts, and a great porch area to view the animals. The view from our room was of trees, and if you looked "just right" you could see the pool. That said, we LOVED our room, and wouldn't have traded it. Convenience to the MANY AKL activities, and restaurants was important to us. Unfortunately, some savannah view rooms are at the faaarrrrrr end of the hallways. They may have a savannah view, but are far from the lobby, etc.

I am in the exact same boat as you.
Bunk bed.. no bunk beds. Sigh.
In my case my dd is 11 and my ds is 4. It's not that they can't share a bed but they annoy eachother so it probably won't work out so well.
But like yourself I keep thinking it's ridiculous for me to spend even more money when I could just share with dd and Hubby to be could share with DS.
I mean there has to come a point where you just stop adding even more and more money right? At least I'm hoping so:rolleyes:
Let me know if you figure it out.:scared:

I did notice a difference with the little bit of extra room - we pushed a few of our suitcases between the bed and wall, and the bunkbed posts were used to hang landyards, hats, etc.

And since we have a boy and a girl, the sleeping arrangments worked out better for us.

It is worth the extra $50 for peace at night!

My DD and DS LOVE the bunkbeds. Plus they sleep so much better in their own space. I think one of the most important things with kids and WDW is a good night's sleep. Priceless! :thumbsup2

The thing that has me questioning it is that I'm not sure if we'd need the bunks. We have a two yr. old (this will be the last trip before he turns three) but he is a big boy and I'm not sure if he'll fit in the pack-n-play anymore and we won't know until we get there since I don't have one at home. DH & I want to avoid having to sleep with either child because they are such wigglers that I'm not sure we'd get any sleep and same thing if they sleep together. ;)

Oh I long for the days when we could get AKL for $120/night.....

We had a bunk bed room on the Zebra trail but I did not notice much extra "floor room". The bunk beds did work out well though....

Does anyone know if any of the bunk bed savannah views are one of those bad corner views? We booked this, and I am holding out hope that since we got bunks that its not in one of those bad view spots, and I wont have to complain!

I'm also curious about bunk bed savannah view rooms...I probably would never have sprung for an AKL room like this, but I got to choose this because we are on the 3 day land/4 day sea trip. I wanted bunks because I have a DD9(turns 10 on trip) and a DS7, and they are getting to be too old to sleep in the same bed. So, are they that far away from everything, and do they not have a good savannah view? Also, you think Disney would have more bunk beds onsite - especially in the value resorts, where the space is so tight. I know that we love the bunks at Great Wolf Lodge, and the rooms give the adults a little more privacy.

YMMV, but our bunk bed savannah room was on the zebra trail, an elevator ride and short walk from the pool/arcade/quickservice food, and really not more than a minute or two from the lobby... just seemed a bit further than that at the end of the night with DD5 asleep on my shoulder ;)

DD5 loved the bunk bed even though it was not strictly necessary for us (just the 3 of us) - it just added to the whole sense of adventure... whilst it was amazingly cool to be able to see giraffes, antelopes and ostriches from our room, DD and I are just too much the park commando type, and I would be hard pushed to justify the extra expense of a savannah view on any subsequent trip...

Future trips may have to be DD & I staying at an All Star - DW hated the small beds in ASMo when we stayed there, and wasn't even that thrilled about the queens at AKL... king bed suites are definitely out of our price range, so I guess we'll just have to leave her at home next time ;)

Its a splurge for us, but this is likely the only tiem we will be able to stay at AKL since we will count as a family of 5 soon(dd is 2 so doenst count towards room occupancy now) so we figured might as well go for it all.

We had a standard room with bunk beds in December. I told the CM checking us in that I didn't think there was such a thing, but sure enough! Bunk beds overlooking the taxi stand in front of the hotel. Definitely standard view.

DS12 likes bunk beds, but I wouldn't pay extra for them just for the 3 of us, but if we had more than one child it might be worth it!

Is it possible to get a concierge-level bunk-bed room? We really want to stay at AKL concierge level to go on the sunrise safari but need three beds. We were considering just getting a regular concierge room and taking along an inflatable mattress for the kid because CRO said they couldn't guarantee a rollaway bed.

For us it was worth the extra $50 me and my brother wont sleep together so is that enough said so far us it was

We did the bunk bed savannah view last year and loved it (even though we only needed one of the beds b/c dd1 was in pac n play. OUr 2.5 yo slept in the bottom bunk with bed rails brought in. The best part about it was that we used the comforter from the upper bunk to block much of the light for DD in the bottom bunk. It created a "cave like" experience that she liked- and allowed us to watch tv without disturbing her. Very good for afternoon naps, too since it blocked daytime light. Upper bunk and rails were useful for storage! Our room was also zebra trail- very convenient and great views! One warning- the bunk beds do make the room feel even darker than they would otherwise. AKL does have dark rooms to begin with and the bunks don't help. THis was fine with us- added to the ambience! ;)

Dh loves the dark, so the whole lodge is probably a dream for him!lol

One alternative that you could consider is doing what we did our last trip and we brought one of those small toddler sized inflatable beds that has the sleeping bag attached right to it. It's small, easily fit into a suitcase of carried onto the plane (if you're flying) and kept our then 3 YO on the floor and we didn't worry about him rolling anywhere and he didn't have to share a bed with anyone. This time though he'll be 9 and our littlest will be turning 2 on the trip and we're bringing my mom so we'll go for the bunks so my mom can have her own bed, DS have his and hubby and I in the other with our 2 YO in the sleepingbag airmatress on the floor. :)
