I have a friend who is thinking about upgrading to the AKL, and was wondering if you really get to see alot of animals if you book the savannah view.
Does anyonehave any photos to share or thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Tell your friend you can see lots of animals on the various savannas

It really does depend a bit on room location and the time of the day that you tend to be in your room. On one stay, we saw lots of animals early am and none mid day, more animals early evening, and then none after dark. On our last trip, we saw no animals early morning, some animals mid morning, but after dark some of the animals slept (giraffee's and some type of cattle and some birds) right where we could see them from our balcony.

Also, we stayed in a Savannah room back in November 2004 and every morning when we went out to view the animals (which were quite a distance always!) it always smelled like a barn yard, not a very refreshing smell to wake up to! :p BUT it is my all time favorite resort and wouldn't hesitate to go again! Just so your friend knows, even if you don't have a Savannah room view, there's a nice walkway out through the back of the resort to see the animals as well as to hear stories and sit by the firepit.

This is the view from our room on the Uzima savannah.

We also got to see a herd of gazelle running by quite often. It was REALLY worth the price for the view. We found that the best time to look for the animals was right before dinner time... this was in February.

I hope they enjoy! :thumbsup2

We were also on Uzima Savannah, and tho it was late June and VERY hot, we actually remarked how little smell there was, especially in relation to the # of animals we saw.

We were right in front of a watering hole and a small grouping of trees, so we had an almost constant group of giraffes, zebras, wildebeests (sp?), pea hens, etc. Well worth the price for the proximity it afforded us. The animals were visible at all times for the 9 days we were there. LOVED IT!!!!

We were on Sunset Savannah; Ostrich Trail and it was great. There were always animals out there. 3 giraffes, a family of wart hogs, an ostrich, african cattle, lots of birds, and we even saw the elusive bongo family walking around one night. Right out side of our room was a watering hole and 3 feeding stations. My husband got up one morning at 5 am and looked out and all the animals were sleeping around the watering hole. Every evening we would sit out there and watch the animals walk around and call to eachother. For us it was worth it.

I've had savannah view rooms on both the Sunset and Uzima savannahs and was amazed at the number of animals we saw. Mornings and late afternoons were the best. The past February DH and I sat on the balcony overlooking Uzima in the afternoon while DD3 napped, drinking wine and eating some munchies and watching animals. When DD was 2, we were on Sunset and one of her favorite things was to go to the window first thing in the morning and report on the "'raffes" she saw. Frankly, I wouldn't stay at AKL unless I had a savannah view room.

Disney ensures you see animals throughout the day by strategically placing specific feeding boxes and grazing areas in key observations areas. Periodically, throughout the day the animal keepers feed the animals to bring them more out in the open-close to the resort and observation areas. You will also see animals after the sun goes down...maybe even right outside or below your balcony. While worth is something always determined by the individual who is paying...I think it is foolish not spend the little extra on a savannah room when you are already paying an elevated rate to be in a resort with animal savannahs...it completes the overall experience with solid and unique memories.

Wow !
Thanks everyone! You were so helpful, I will forward him this link.

Thanks again!!
