AKL “lost rooms” and making us move!!

This happened to us last summer. We had a room at the Contemporary and they tried to move us to a studio at BLT the day of check-in. I was like, no way, we need two actual beds and not a couch bed. They ended up putting us in a 2 bedroom at BLT and we were very happy about that! Hope it works out for you, OP. Let us know!

Ummm, I didn't say that. I highly doubt that every single room "like hers" is already booked. At the very least, if they move her to a room that is not to her satisfaction she should be offered some sort of compensation in return.
it is sounding that way from what has been offered to her. maybe should get something but when you start saying no to everything offered and just want where you are booked does not help your cause like she expected something to pixie dust change to get what she wanted

but as I have said earlier if say the air had gone out in room and waiting for parts would she have been happy to have been put in that room cause that is the room she paid for? things happen at last minute
Absolutely and Disney has lots of really nice rooms that would be an actual upgrade to offer her. Not something at Saratoga.

Hopefully she got a great upgrade for her trouble!

you are assuming they are not already booked and the having to have 3 separate beds and that sounds like no sofa beds makes that harder to find. this is going into Mothers Day weekend so rooms might be harder to find like she booked

She “expected” the room that she paid for, no?
That's understandable but if that room is no longer available to be occupied, then a reasonable substitution should be considered. Disney cannot create a room at AKV (where occupancy runs close to 100% normally) when none exists. It sucks but being "walked" is not uncommon in the hotel industry. At least the OP was given a heads up, albeit short, instead of showing up at AKV and learning they had been moved to another resort with no input from them.

I hope the OP got a satisfactory resolution from Disney. It would be nice to hear from them when they have the time to update us.

I was “walked” once in all of my non Disney travel and they did not charge me for the night I stayed in the other hotel and had a car pick us up the next day to bring us to the hotel we booked. So yes it happens, but the answer can’t be — head to a hotel that is not comparable.

I would assume the OP would not want the room if it's not in working order. But that doesn't mean Disney shouldn't find her a room she is happy with, especially the day before check in.

Well, that isn’t always possible, especially if there’s limited availability (which it seems like there probably is at most DVC resorts that aren’t SSR or OKW). That said, Disney should do their best to make it right and I agree that 1 BR at AKL to 2 BR at SSR is a downgrade.

That’s why I suggested that OP at least try pushing back at that offer and try to see if Disney can come up with something better. I wasn’t joking when I suggested the Poly Bungalows. While it would be a fairly big upgrade, they are likely to be among the few DVC options still available that would accommodate their needs.

Oh, I agree. But "comparable" is subjective. While I would be fine with a 2BR at SSR instead of a 1BR at AKV, the OP is not. Since I'm not the one being walked, my preferences are irrelevant. That's why I had suggested that the OP make a list of what is acceptable to her and present it to the CM.

Totally agree. The list idea is very smart.

I’m more concerned OP described the CM who spoke with her was curt and unhelpful. That shouldn’t be the case.

I like that advice.

Guess if it happened to us I’d make a short list of what we felt acceptable and also let them know we were willing to do a split if it made it easier for them.

Except they said they were told by the CM that the resort was oversold

Someone else might really like a SSR 2-bedroom over a AKV 1-bedroom.

Because I have stayed at both several times, and am sure I’ll stay at both again, I’d go with the 2BR SSR. I would prefer the extra space.

(I would feel differently if it were a difficult-to-book room. In this case, I would have no idea when I would have the next chance.)

So Disney could call others to see if anyone else is interested in the switch.

Maybe they have. We have no idea how far down the list the OP is.

Oversold can mean a number of things. Oversold is simply bookings > rooms available, and there are multiple reasons this can occur.

A 1BR at AKV will be a sofa bed, so I don't think that's the issue when talking 3 "beds." I believe OP must be refering to sleep surfaces given the original unit.

if they were oversold then most likely other resorts are also oversold. that is what happened to us one time not at Disney. we ended up across town as that was closest room they could find us on a busy weekend. we got nothing but I am sorry and this is best we can do for you. it happens all the time and this is Mothers Day weekend so rooms could be hard tom find at current time. they can not blink their eyes and make a room into what is needed. you sometimes have to take what you can

It would be nice to know, but I won’t hold my breath. The OP seems to be a very infrequent poster, some years only 1 or 2 posts for the whole year. So I’m not expecting to hear the resolution. But I hope they worked out an acceptable solution.

Exactly. "Oversold" does not preclude rooms being taken out of service for mechanical reasons. If they were sold out and one or more rooms goes out of service, they are then "oversold".
