Anyone have any opinions/reviews of either of the above? Trying to narrow down some of our dining choices for our January 08 trip. Will be me, DH, DS (6) & DD (2). Thought DD would do better with "real" faces to start off with. We are also doing Chef Mickey's for dinner for DS.

We will be on DDP and staying from 1/6/08-1/10/08. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated!

We have done both and I prefer the Akerschus immensely. It has a very quaint, peaceful setting where you can relax and enjoy the meal. 1900 is more chaotic. Also Akerschus (at least for breakfast) was family style, which I prefer over the buffets. The setting there was more intimate too, so you get better character interaction.

Thanks for the quick response! We were thinking of doing the breakfast for Akerschus since the lunch/dinner didn't look that great for picky eaters (mostly me!) The child's menu looked more appetizing for me.

I have only been to 1900 Park Fare, but we loved it, both the food and the characters. I just wanted to add that the characters are different between the two places, I don't know if that makes a difference. 1900 is Cinderella, Prince Charming, the Fairy Godmother anf the 2 mice. I think the mice are adorable, and IMO many kids enjoy them more than Cinderella. Ackershus (sp?) has multiple princesses (not sure if Cindy is there), no Prince Charming, no mice. HTH!

We did 1900 Park (D) last trip and loved it, but we're trying Akershus (L) this trip for the hopes of seeing Jasmine. We loved the food at PF, but with the renovations we didn't know how it would work as a plated dinner at the Cafe, so maybe next time, but would definetly do it again.

I was debating between 1900 Park Fare and Akershus as well (I've never eaten at either restaurant). Beware - Akershus serves traditional American fare for their breakfast buffet, but I have been told they switch to Norwegian cuisine for lunch and dinner. Picky eaters might not enjoy that.

Hope this helps!

Let me add this too. Since you're already doing Cheff Mickey's, and 1900 is a lot like it, Akershus would give you some variety.

I booked dinner at 1900PF on our arrival day and breakfast the next day in Norway- I couldn't decide, so I chose both. We are going to BBB before our dinner.princess:

i have done norway for dinner and the food was soso, by the character were great. this time (in 4 days) we are goin norway for breakfast and 1900 park fare for dinner on different days ...i well i mean my girls cant wait!!!

I have been to both and am going abck to both this trip. 1900PF is great because it has Prince Charming. I think that may be the only place you can see him. The food has always been very good and the service is good. It is a little tight and loud but its a big room with lots of little girls so what do you expect.
Akershus is great too. The norwiegen CMs are very friendly ( although I think I confuse them alot). The restaurant itself if beautiful and the way its set up it not so hectic . I would go ahead and do lunch or dinner though. The food is not that odd and they have a starter buffet with salads, fruits, meats and cheeses. You could easily just eat from this if you are picky but then they have other dishes that are good. I always get this meatloaf deal ( I'm not even going to try the name) but they have a tasty chicken too. FWIW we have seen Cindy there every time.. 3 times and counting. Maybe we are just very lucky.

so, food choice for them is not a big deal. 1900 is fine (esp. if you have a day that you don't want to pay park admission), but being in a castle and seeing 4-6 princesses beats 1900, I think.
We chose 1900 this Easter week for dinner b/c we had older kids who would eat other things off adult buffet and we took grandparents and did not have to pay for park admission. I thought it was a very good overall value. But, if I already had park admission and had kids your ages--I would do Norway.

We did Akershus for dinner in 05 and were not really thrilled with the food. The kids menu is ok, but for adults that are not that adventurous, the family style menu is kind of limited. I would do it for breakfast because the character interaction, especially for girls who love princesses and such, was great.

You might want to check if you are going during the 1900 Park Fare refurbishment, it will n ot be a buffet but PRE plated - that turned me off!! I also book both, but dd likes the buffets, not the pre plated kid meal choices.. and I like to get 2nds on the Strawberry soup!!

We really love the Norway Breakfast - just know first seating is 8:30 and did mess with our plans at being there for rope drop - so we went back to Epcot another morning...

I think we may do breakfast at Akershus since I don't think we'll be happy with the dinner choices. Also, it sounds like most of the time the princess' that DD would like to see will be around.

Just hope she doesn't get scared! We had to cancel our ADR's last time when DS was 3 since he would NOT go anywhere near the characters even when walking around the parks. He finally warmed up to them by the end of our trip.

I have eaten at both restaurants for dinner and I LOVED Akershus! First let me say that I too am a picky/non-adventurous eater. However, when our waiter described the Traditional Kjottkaker it sounded good and I LOVED it. It reminded me of meatloaf but with more flavor. Everyone at my table (8 of us) tried it and liked it as well. We had 5 adults ordering different entree's and everyone was very pleased. I didn't partake in the Fra Koldtbord (cold table "bufffet" of meats/cheeses/shrimp) as I fill up quickly but everyone else enjoyed that as well. The princess interaction was great. We saw Ariel in her blue gown upon entering (no need to buy the pic they take as they let you take your own), Cinderella (apparently that isn't "normal", Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, Jasmine, and Belle (in her Blue day outfit). They took time for pics with 3 separate children and sign autographs. Someone came around to be sure that we saw all the Princesses.

I would much rather go there again (and may with just me and DH on our next trip) instead of the 1900 Park Fare. It was more "hectic" as another poster mentioned and I just liked the whole atmosphere in Akershus.

Basically, you won't make a mistake choosing either one over the other so enjoy!

Missie :)

Been to both. Akershus is just wonderful. I'll never forget seeing the look in DD4 eyes as she watched everyone of her favorite princesses come and talk with her, sign her autograph book and pose for pictures. 1900 was great, too. It was our first trip to Disney as a family and DD3 saw her favorite(Cinderella)for the first time. I had tears in my eyes. I think it depends on who your child likes the most. 1900 was great for our first trip. By the next year she really liked Snow White, Aurora, Belle, Ariel and Cinderella, so Akershus was the perfect choice. Wonderful memories at both and we're returning to Akershus this year.:wizard:

Was at both in Dec...would do Askerhaus for bfast again in a heartbeat, and would totally skip 1900 completely...NOT impressed.

Being married to a 100% Swede from Northern Minnesota, I can tell you that Scandinavian cuisine can be an acquired taste. I'm not surprised that some find the food "different".

Now, with that said, I am somewhat surprised that some of the people posting here, who describes themselves as "picky eaters", would chose to go someplace that serves regional food and then complain when they don't like it. It's one thing to say "I wanted to try something different, and found that I didn't care for it". But to say you are a picky eater and then choose to go someplace like Akershus seems to be setting yourself up for a bad dining experience.

Just like I wouldn't expect to be able to order BBQ Ribs at the Rose & Crown, I wouldn't expect to be able to get a steak and potatoes at Akershus.

With that said, we are totally excited about our ADR here in August. This was a last minute addition to our plans, and we are glad we did it. Especially after the glowing comparisons to 1900 (which was our other choice, but because of the renovations, were having second thoughts).

Thanks for the feedback on these 2 places- we're not going until January but I'm already trying to figure out where to go. We'll be there for DD's 9th b-day (Chloesmom- our DD's must be close in age) and I'd like to go someplace special with her. We did breakfast with Stitch for her 7th birthday but I'd like something different this go.
