We're going to the PSB lunch at Akershus. I'm very excited about this. DH & I ate dinner there in the late 90's and loved it. We did the PSB last trip, again fantastic food. This trip we're doing the lunch.

As usual, there are a few things that look good to me, but I cannot have them all. Oh well. So, ...

A few questions:
  1. Do they still have a large selection of pickled herrings? (Yum-yum!)
  2. What did you order, and did you like it?
  3. Why?
  4. Would you get it again?
Thanks!

1st- Not sure about that pickled herring- I don't remember anything like that

2nd- While on our big family trip in Nov. - I took my daughter, my niece and nephew to the lunch- while everyone chilled out back at OKW - It was just great being there with just the kids- It was my niece's and nephew’s first time at WDW, which was great - since it was my and my daughter's 15th or 16th time being there and she a little jaded.

3rd- The food- best I remember they have a buffet with different cheeses and deli type meats which the kids loved!! each kid had some "kid friendly" type meal - pizza, mac n cheese etc.... I had some type of pasta- was ok. I do remember the kids loved the rice cream with strawberries.

4th- We actually have it booked for this Sept. when we go for Free dining- my niece is going with us and I know she will love to go again!!

Hope this helps!!!

We ate there for lunch in November. Not sure about the herring. I don't eat it so would not have noticed. I had the Kjottkaker. I did not like it. I like my meat well done and asked why it was red. I was told it was the beets in it. I just didn't care for the taste but filled up on the cold board and the desserts. My husband had the Pasta Akershus and enjoyed it. The kids had a hot dog and I think pasta. The desserts were very good. I would go back again and order the pasta or something else this time. My girls and I enjoyed the interaction with the princesses. Ariel greated us when we came in and that is my oldest dd favorite!

I had dinner there a year ago. The pickled herring selection had been greatly reduced, but other than that the buffet had just about all the good stuff it used to (as of 2003 anyway).

What I ordered was the poached cod, which was great and it's a shame it's not on the lunch menu. I would be tempted by the braised lamb or the soup and sandwich. The desserts are truly wonderful. I dined alone and had the whole dessert tray to myself! After that it's hard to imagine sharing it with anyone! If it's not enough (and your server won't sneak you an extra dessert), you can to the Kringla Bakeri and get more of the Rice Cream and probably the Chocolate Mousse as well.

I had the soup and salmon sandwich - yum!

I'm not sure either how much pickled herring there was. I'm sure if it was there I ate some as I really like it, but we had a busy lunch with a very excited 2-year-old so I don't remember. I do, however, remember the peppered makerel, as that's my favorite! :thumbsup2

Enjoy your lunch - I love Norwegian (and Norwegian American ;) ) food!

I had the herring last month and really liked it; it was the best thing at the restaurant. Sadly, I don't even remember what I ordered off the menu, though.

I had potato leek soup and open faced salmon sandwhich. My mom had the meatballs. I don't know about the herring, but they had this really yummy brown cheese. My mom was too whimpy to try it, but it was good. The desserts were delicious, too.

We have gone 2x...a must character meal for us.

Mom had salmon sandwich and soup....very good...

I had kjottker(spellcheck)2x...i liked it....

DH had lamb dish....it's like lamb stew...

DD had pizza once and then raviolies...both very good...

salad bar is good....
Desserts are to die for..

Okay - this is making my mouth water! Thanks for the reports of the pickled herring. I know that it was a strange question to ask, but my parents are 1st & 2nd generation Swedish Americans, so we had a lot of herring to eat growing up. As I mentioned before, DH & I ate dinner there in the late 90s, and I couldn't get enough of all the different herrings they had to offer. It's what I remembered most - I couldn't even tell you what I had for dinner! :rotfl:

The salmon sandwich & soup does sound good - and from the photo posted on the meal photos thread it looks good, too.

Thanks again! Yum-Yum!!!

Well if you remember all the pickled herring offerings from before the pre princess era you will be sadly in for a suprise. They only have like 2 herring offerings now, my dh partakes in those. We will still go again for the food but it has been scaled down alot. I had the lamb and dh had the cod I think or is there trout? I dont remember, this time I will try the pasta.
