DH told me I could pick anywhere on Disney property I wanted to eat for my Christmas/early Anniversary gift. I chose Akershus because I just couldnt see spending a ton on V&A's and its something I've been wanting to do (But w/ 2 boys I dont get to do). I would love to hear from others (if there are any) who have dined as just a couple at Akershus what their experience was like (we are doing dinner).

we did went here in may. just me and my fiance ages 27 and 30. there is definately better food on property, and better experiences for an anniversary dinner.

it's very tight in there, and the kids are going crazy for the princesses visiting your table. its hard to enjoy your meal when you get interrupted every 5 minutes with a character.

don't get me wrong, the food wasn't that bad, but we certainely agreed only to come back if we had a child with us.

are you looking for an EPCOT restaurant? i would say to skip out to the yacht club and go to the captain's grille. it's a reasonably priced, excellent meal. afterwards you can walk on the beach on your way back into epcot, or hop the bus to downtown disney! let me know if i can help in any way!

Agree with previous poster...I would not do a character meal as an anniversary meal. These meals can be fun, but you're really paying for the character experience, not the atmosphere or food. The food is typical buffet fare (so it's OK, but nothing special) and the noise/hectic atmosphere can be crazy--sometimes you're lucky if you can exchange a word at all because it's so loud. The tables are very close together, especially the two-tops, so chances are you'll be surrounded by little princesses & other assorted kids, all way too excited. You might as well take your own little ones if you're going there, lol.

There are so many restaurants at & around Epcot that would give you a better anniversary meal...and the suggestion of walking over to the Yacht Club for Captain's Grill is a great one. It's a resort restaurant, and when we were there a year ago, the place was not even 1/2 full at 6:00 p.m. so even though the tables were too close together (as at all Disney restaurants) it was not that noisy. And was a much quieter pace/atmosphere than the character meals.

If you're not looking for a romantic meal and are interested primarily in the princess-meeting aspect (not the food or the atmosphere) it will be fine to go as adults.

If you are more interested in the food or the atmosphere than the characters I would pick a different restaurant.

We picked it for the Princess aspect because we wanted to Dine in the castle, but it was booked. I know it sounds crazy a grown woman choosing that, but I looked at other meals and nothing struck me as "HEY I WANT THAT" except Chef De Paris, and Hubby didnt want that. When I told him I wanted to go to Akershus he wasnt shocked at all. he figured I would answer that since I tried to talk the boys into it b4 and they wouldnt agree to it.

Thanks everyone for the input I'm hoping that w/ us eating at the last seating that night it wont be horribly busy.

My brother & sister in law went there for their 10th anniversary. (I took their girls & we ate at 9 dragons) They said that at first they got some weird looks bcs they didn't want to have their pictures taken with the Princesses (they didn't tell the girls they were doing a princess dinner, so no pictures as evidence!) but they had a really good time and enjoyed the food.

Happy Anniversary!

HI, we just got back from Disney today and did the dining plan for the first time so we ate at some places that we might not ordinarily and Norway was one of them. Here's my two cents....

Aker. was next to last on the list for the entire family, the only thing that beat it as worst dinner was Cinderellas royal table! We have two girls ages 4 and 7 so we thought that they would love these and they liked them. The characters did a good job with the interaction, but the food was NOT great. It was edible but NOT worth the amount of money you pay. Thankfully the dining plan came free as part of our offer or I would have never paid the inflated super prices.

It was loud and they sat us in the corner not even in the "castle" part. I certainly wouldn't do this as a anniversary dinner. There are so many other great places on property that would make a enchanted evening. It's loud and croweded and ok food quality at best.

With that said here is our list in order of best to worst table service we ate at this week...

1. Kona Cafe at the Poly. Great food from start to finish, and the environment was a little loud but overall not bad.

2.Momma Melrose's at Hollywood Studios. I had the steak and my husband had the chicken parm... the steak was to die for! I didnt like the bread diping oil but that doesn't really bother me I dont need the extra carbs!

3. Boatwrights at Port Orleans Riverside. I had the prime rib and loved the meal including the cornbread. My husband had the bbq pork and didnt care for it. I had the pecan pie and on my first bite I bit into a pecan shell and hurt my tooth! Other than that the food was good.

4. Akershus at Epcot. I had the pork with apple chutney and it was tasty. My husband had the beef tips and they were both good, but not great. Also the serving size was on the small side but I think the cheese and salad buffet is supposed to make up for that.

5. Cinderellas royal table at Magic Kingdom. My husband and I both had the beef tenderloins. Food was awful. Period. Hated the salad, beef was flavorless and potatoes bland, asparagus was under cooked deserts were blah...just did not like it at all. Very disapointed.

I will say, not that you have to listen to me, but overall listen to the people on these threads they won't steer you wrong for the most part. I know it's all in the experience and taste buds but i'd hate to see you spend the special time and money and not have a magical dinner! Good luck in where ever you choose, disney can make for a wonderful evening! :lovestruc

I surprised my wife with breakfast at the Akershus on our belated honeymoon trip in 2004 because she is a huge Sleeping Beauty fan and, at the time, it was considered "Aurora's Meal" so I knew we were guaranteed to see her. I thought the food was pretty good, was more family style at that time, not buffet, and the server we had was very good and kept the food coming. The character interaction was fantastic, I didn't feel snubbed at all due to not having any kids with us (except maybe Mulan, who barely said three words to us before moving on). It was one of the highlights of our trip, and we're looking forward to taking our daughter there on our trip in January.

From what I've read, breakfast is the best time to go to Akershus if that's where you want to go. Lunch and dinner seems very hit and miss.

We went there for dinner as a 30-year-old couple a couple years ago. I have to say we were surprised how much we enjoyed it. We both had the salmon and it was fantastic, as were the appetizers and desserts (warning, though, it's kind of unusual for American tastes and seafood-tastic ... we loved it, but it's very different). We weren't crowded and we enjoyed watching the princesses with the kids around us--and they were fun for us to talk to, too.

Honestly, it wasn't my favorite romantic dinner on property (for that I'd go for Narcoossee's or Flying Fish, maybe Jikp), but it was definitely a surprise hit and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We went there for dinner on our Honeymoon in 2008. My wife did enjoy the princesses and the food was pretty good, but we haven't returned because there are so many other great options in and around Epcot.

UPDATE (yeah a few months late).

We did it in Jan and LOVED IT. DH wants to go back on our April 2012 trip, but we cant talk the boys into going.

When we get there the we went and met Belle. After that we sat down close to the buffett but in an area where it was more adults than kids. The waitress came up and said the chef would be out to meet us in a min (dining restrictions). He came out and discussed the menu w/ us, and told me that since I have a digestive disorder that I could alter my meals to things I knew I could eat. I didnt have to do much altering at all. HE took the order and then when it was done HE brought it out. He made sure that all was really well. He brought us cheese from the back since the stuff on the bar was near fish. He even brought out our dessert. It was nice. They really took care of us. The princesses were fun too. They stopped by and chatted a lot more than I expected. They commented on the Tiara DH had bought me. They told him he did a good job etc. i really did enjoy it. If only we could talk 3 boys into going (LOL...my boys and my nephew had a LOUD NO for us).!!!!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :) Try to talk the boys into going to CRT. Tell them they'll get a sword.

I don't think it's crazy at all for an adult to want to eat a Princess meal. We went to CRT for me. I had always wanted to eat in the castle & I loved it. My DS & DH were fine with it, but I would have made them go anyway. ;) I fully intend to go again sometime whether I have grandchildren or not. I just love being in the castle. BTW, your DH sounds sweet. I can't imagine my DH ever thinking of buying me a tiara.
