Has anyone done Akershus for dinner recently, and would you reccomend it? We usually do CRT as our princess meal, but we booked a last minute trip to WDW and the character meal that was 1) available and 2) fit best with our schedule was a dinner at Akershus. I was actually a little surprised to find it available two weeks out, and wondered if I just got lucky, or if there was something undesirable about the dinner seating...

How is the food? Is there anything in particular you really like or really dislike?

Are the princesses there at dinner? (CRT only had them for breakfast and lunch, last time we were there.)

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi,

Just had dinner at Akershus this past Saturday night. I have to tell you that we were not impressed with the food, it wasn't horrible but just nothing great. They have a cold buffet which was okay and then you order from a menu. I can't remember the name of what I ordered but it was the first thing on the menu and I didn't really like it. I was with 5 other adults and 4 kids and all of the adults said it was our least favourite meal.
That being said, it was a great oppourtunity to see the princesses. We saw Belle, Aurora, Cinderealla, Snow White and Ariel. Overall, I would say the characters were great, the food not so much. Hope this helps!

We ate there this past Nov. The meal as pp said wasn't great, the cold buffet was pretty good, better than the meal. We had three adults and one child with us. The princesses never came to our table until well after we were done dessert. DD5 was actually asking to leave without seeing them, very out of character for her! Their interaction was fairly rushed. I am not sure what happened as from what I have heard this is not typical for character interaction at this restaurant. Our server was okay, not great, not horrible. I hope this helps!

We just ate dinner at Akershus on Thursday evening and again the food was just OK. We had the Cod and the Salmon which was recommended by our waitress. Back in November we ate here for lunch and had the traditional meat ball dish and I did not care for it at all! The cold buffet had some nice fresh fruit, nice lettuce and dressings but the other items are just so-so. They did serve a basket for fresh bread and butter, which we enjoyed. I thought the options for the kids meals were poor. The princesses included Belle (up front for pictures) Cinderella (which I was very surprised to see), Sleeping Beauty, Ariel in dress, and Snow White. They all took their time visiting and the service was good. CRT is by far our favorite restaurant, but since that is not an option, Akershus does have the Princesses and just for that alone I thought it was worth going.

I agree with the other posts. We went in March and I have to tell you the interaction with the Princesses was the best of all the character dinings (we did 6 character dining out of the 7 days there). The food was ok. I enjoyed the cold buffet better than my entree. The food was sort of bland but I must say I will go back solely because of my daughter's interaction with the princesses. We did CRT as well but she feel asleep. Made the HUGE mistake of making reservations on the day we arrived. So now I am debating whether to include it in my August visit again.

Hmm, thanks everyone for the responses! DH and I are foodies and DS couldn't care less about the princesses. I'm the one who loves having the princess photos, the rest of the family puts up with me. ;) However, the princesses are the ONLY characters that don't scare DS and the only characters I can consistently get photos of him with. He likes to watch Mickey et al, but only from a distance.

(On a side note, I don't even bother worrying about kid's meals at WDW. DS only eats pizza, fruit, and chicken nuggets when we're there. And Mickey Sprinkles on everything we can talk a server into. He's a seriously picky eater, and most of the food on vacation does not meet with his approval. I keep a Zone bar in my bag for him at all times.)

That said, if the food isn't very good, DH isn't going to be a particularly happy husband. Particularly not when he knows Marrakesh, Bistro, etc are right next door, so to speak...

We usually do CRT for lunch and have generally been very happy with it, but we planned this trip only a couple of weeks ago, so we had to take what last minute ADRs we could find. I may rethink this, but there weren't a huge number of options for a Saturday night...

This is from my trip report from our trip in November:

Now on to the Princess dinner. We arrived a little early and had to wait. When our time arrived, we were taken inside to have a photo taken with Belle. DD17 is totally not interested in princesses so it was just the rest of us girls in the pic. The buffet here is grand. The best swiss cheese I've had in a long, long time. I highly recommend this dinner even if you're not into the princesses. The food was really good. I can't remember the names of the dishes but we had 4 different entrees at our table and they were all delish. Then they bring you these desserts to try and it was all good! My kids got to meet the princesses that they've never met before and it was a dream come true for me to see it, even at their ages. We even got DSonIL to get his picture taken with Cinderella! We'll use it for blackmail at a later date.

I thought the Princesses were really great at Akerhaus. Pictures were being taken with Belle, and the princesses that visited our table included Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Ariel. It was quite magical with them circulating around the floor.

My husband is proud of his Norwegian heritage but he was apprehensive about eating at the Norwegian restaurant in Epcot -- he's been to Norway and the food tends to be pickled fish and the like -- he didn't particularly care for it. The food at Akerhaus is not like that at all! It's pretty good; I got the salmon and it was fine but nothing special. My husband got the pork shank which we both liked a bit better. The cold buffet was fine, too.

We were glad we went -- it's certainly worth going.

It broke my heart when this restaurant went to Princess dining only. I'm a big brute man, and I don't think I'd deal well with the amount on girliness in the air. Plus the bruises I'd get from the wife for staring in Jasmine's direction maybe wouldn't be worth it. Maybe. :)

How did you like the salmon? This was the only item on the menu that appealed to me for dinner.

The Salmon was very good ( and a generous portion), it was served with a light sauce and nicely cooked asparagus! The cod was a much smaller portion and wrapped in bacon served with wilted spinach and some other veggies. The best part of the meal was dessert. I love school bread and the rice cream with the sauce!

We love this restaurant and have been the last two times we've been to the world. First time we adored it for both the food and the characters (Belle, Ariel, Jasmine, Cindy, Aurora AND Snow White). Most recently (Feb 2009) we loved the characters who we thought we actually more in character than last time (Belle, Cindy, Jasmine, Alice and Snow White) but the food was not as good. The cold bar and dessert were great but the main course wasn't great. I had the lamb stew. If the Princesses were not there I doubt I would go back but seeing as they are i will! princess:
