Akershus - breakfast or dinner?

Looking for advice about breakfast or dinner at Akershus. Will be me, DH, DGS13 and DGD9. Of course, we're going for the princesses! So I'm already prepared to be paying too much money for a not-excellent meal. And we will probably be on the DDP, so cost comparisons between the two aren't important.

My GKs are not adventurous eaters, don't see them trying any of the traditional Norweigan appie stuff or any of the fish. How "normal" are the meatballs?

We'll be doing this on one of our late-start days. So I would try for breakfast around 11 am; dinner would then be QS somewhere in WS. Alternatively, we'd have breakfast in the room, do QS lunch at Sunshine Seasons/somewhere in WS, then dinner at Akershus. Either way, staying through until IllumiNations.

WWYD? and why?

I haven't been yet, but breakfast would be the "easier" meal for picky eaters (especially now that the cold buffet is back). Just a note though, breakfast ends at 11:10am...if you choose that meal, you may want to try for a little earlier so that you don't get stuck in the changeover to lunch if you are seated late.

How does changeover work, when shifting from a buffet to a plated meal? I guess I'm assuming that we'd be seated and perhaps rushed to get our buffet food before it is cleared out. But if there is a serious possibility of missing the buffet completely and having to order lunch, I really wouldn't like that. Recognizing that it's completely irrational, I refuse to pay $50 for a meal whose main dish is a sandwich. (Irrational that I'll overpay for totally ordinary breakfast food or dinner entrees, but not for a turkey sandwich. We all have our limits:crazy2: and that is one of mine.)

We're actually planning on taking advantage of changeover at Tusker House on another day, for a brunch-type experience.

Anyone with any experience at changeover at Akershus?

On the Disney site, it lists breakfast ending at 11:10 and lunch starting at 11:55. Unless you have something like an 11 am breakfast looks like you still have about 50 minutes until lunch starts. We have a 10:55 ressie and I'm not worried about the lunch changeover since lunch shouldn't start until an hour after our reservation time.

I'm thinking along the same lines as you - that time gap is about finishing/closing out the breakfast buffet before starting lunch service. Let's hope we're right.

Still hoping someone will weigh in with experience with the dinner options. . .

I would definitely do breakfast over dinner if you have picky eaters! When we had dinner there I found the food to be inedible. We recently did the breakfast and it was so much better. Even my ridiculously picky eaters found things they liked.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Inedible - that's pretty strong! Might be even worse than paying too much for a sandwich!

I'd be doubting my restaurant choice entirely if it weren't for DGD. She's Disney-mad, princess-mad, and has never met any princesses! So the experience is virtually guaranteed to be positive, even if the food is, um, less than stellar.

Ah, the things we'll do for our little ones! With your input, I'm now definitely leaning towards breakfast.

I just have to chime in and say, I've only had lunch there....but it was DELICIOUS! our favorite meal food-wise. I can't imagine it being inedible....it must have been an off night because every single thing we tried was heavenly. This was in May. We are having dinner there in December and can't wait! My kids were 3.5 and 1.5 and they ate a lot! and we are vegetarians so right off the bat our options are limited. they loved it.

Another vote for inedible. It is a standing joke in our house as the worst meal we have ever had at Disney. We ate turkey and cheese off the cold bar for dinner. Never was brave enough to book again for breakfast.
