We will be at AK for one day and no reservations for AK. We are on the dining plan, but need to use our table service credit for a previous meal at the castle (those are 2 TS credits). So we will have a counter service meal and a snack credit to work with, plus out of pocket obviously. We've been told Flaming tree, but not sure the daughter would like that.

Suggestions?

The Flame Tree BBQ is great. But there is also Pizzafari that DD might be interested in.

Flame Tree, Pizzafari, and Restaurantosaurus are all adorable with great theming. The food is, well, it's quick service food. (Sorry folks, but I hate BBQ in all forms.) I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them.

Flame Tree is BBQ and has a predator/prey theme and great outdoor seating.

Pizzafari is pizza and some other stuff you'd find at a pizza place, and each room has a different theme.

Restaurantosaurus has burgers with a toppings bar and a "fishing cabin turned into college student dorm" theme. If you go there, be sure to go all the way back into the student lounge and read the titles on the jukebox.

Wow, thanks for this. The restaurantosaurus theme sounds interesting, a little strange, but interesting.

Is it just standard pizza fare? Do they have pasta as well?
No pasta at Pizzafari. The menu consists of plain and pepperoni pizza, cheese breadsticks, chicken Caesar salad and a hot Italian sandwich with turkey, ham, Swiss and provolone cheeses, Caesar salad and pesto-marinated tomatoes.

Pizzafari isn't the greatest counter service option, but it's a big restaurant with plenty of indoor seating, and kids seems to like the food. Flame Tree Barbecue is probably the best place, but the tables are all outdoors, albeit covered, and the food seems decidedly more adult. Considering how hot Animal Kingdom always feel, we always lean toward Pizzafari for the air conditioning, even if we are making a slight sacrifice in food quality.

The story behind Dinoland is quite long, but the relevant portion is that (1) the area was a fishing resort until the dinosaur bones were discovered and (2) the stuffy scientists at the Dino Institute have recruited grad students to help them. The students are responsible for all the pranks in the area (such as writing OSAURUS after RESTAURANT, and the arrows sticking out of the water tower) and Restaurantosaurus is their dorm/cafeteria/student lounge. (Hint: the sleeping area is in the loft.)

My DH & I wanted Flame Tree but, with 3 non-BBQ eating kids, we were overruled. We settled on Pizzafari & were pleasantly surprised. DH, DD16, & I all got the hot Italian sandwich with chips & it was really good. DD11 & DD6 both got the cheese pizza (one from adult menu & one from kid's menu). Adult pizza is served with a caesar salad, fyi. Dessert choices were not so hot but most of the CS places serve blah-desserts. If you like the sandwich, they also serve it at DHS at Catalina Eddie's.

I appreciate the responses, but those two the only CS options? Doesn't sound like everyone is too thrilled with the places to eat at AK.

There are 3 sit-down QS options: Flame Tree Barbecue, Pizzafari, Restaurantosaurus. There are also 3 places where you walk up and get your food and find a place to eat: Yak & Yeti, Tamu Tamu, and the Picnic in the Park.

I actually love the places to eat at AK, but there's very little truly great QS food anywhere on property.

I hear pretty good things about Yak and Yeti CS.. Plan on trying it in Sept you get Chinese food in the take out boxes.. I think that cute..LOL

We ate CS at Yak and Yeti and found it to be fantastic. My sister and I love Chinese food but my mom not so much and she really enjoyed it. Even my kids loved the egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. This will be a must do every time we go to AK from now on. I will tell you that the egg rolls and fried rice were snack credits. The meal that you receive has very large portions. We order the rice and rolls along with our meals and could not finish.

Awesome to hear about Yak and Yeti. I am a huge Chinese food fan, so even if the wife and daughter don't want it I may invest a snack credit there!

We ate at the dinoland cs place on Monday and thought it was fine. The kids (3 and 6) ate nuggets and I had a veggie burger (generic frozen variety). The burgers, chicken, and fries are fresh though and all of that was quite tasty. The kids also get grapes. The desserts were not good.
