I've read the message boards and just have never seen this question asked, so a bit timidly I must ask....

In the heat of Florida, isn't the smell of the animal droppings a bit bothersome? We are thinking of getting a Savanah view, but perhaps sitting out on the balcony could have a bit of an odor??

Wendy :(

I too thought about this before going to the AKL, but let me assure you that Disney CM's must be on 24 hour clean up and deodorizing duty becaue we just returned from there and smelled nothing in the way of animal smells!

We had a savannah view room and saw quite a few animals, but we never did smell anything offensive. Now, down in the lobby you will smell the wonderful aromas wafting up and out of the Boma....hmmm so good...

You will love AKL -- have a wonderful stink free time!

I think our trip to AKL was in August (HOT, HOT, HOT) 2001. We had a savannah view room on 2nd floor (loved it --- saw many, many animals near our window) and never noticed any odors at all. The animal caretakers are out several times a day in their pickup trucks, putting out food and 'cleaning up'.

Hope you love it as much as we did!

Also, have either of you stayed at the WL or the BC? Our family is all split as to either the AK, WL or BC. We are a family of 5 with an 11, 9 and 7 year old.

Thanks again!

Wendy

Wow! I'd find it incredibly difficult to choose between those resorts. We've had wonderful times at all of those. Because we go at least once a year (and have no kids), we spend a lot of time relaxing and enjoying the resort. For that reason, WL and AKL would be big favorites for us. BC is wonderful, and the kids would probably love Stormalong Bay. You're just going to plan a return trip soon to try out the resorts you don't get to visit!

My kids were 12, 10, and 7 when we stayed at AKL. They loved it. We went in December and weren't planning to spend much time at the pool. I think they would have really enjoyed stormalong bay too, if we had stayed at BC and spent time there in warmer weather.

I have stayed all 3 and would pick AKL over the rest. They are all nice but AKL is very unique. Also Pittfarm not trying to be picky but the abbreviation for animal kingdom lodge is AKL some people might get confused because Animals kingdoms abbreviation is AK. Just trying to help from any future conffusion. Either one you pick you will have a great time

Thanks so much for the correction! I have to get back into the Disney groove again and re-learn my lingo! :)

I have stayed at AKL and have a very sensitive nose. I can assure that there was no animal smell at all. However, the aroma of the food from Bomas did bother me!

I have also stayed at all 3 resorts mentioned and although we did love looking at the animals at AKL and were glad we stayed there once, we keep on gong back to the Beach Club. We just love the atmosphere and themeing of that resort.

We've just returned from 7 days at AKL and there is no animal smell - but there is however a burnt wood smell - the best that I can describe it. Perhaps it is the smell from Boma - but it if is it lingers 24 hours a day. I've noticed it from the 5th floor Savannah view and the front of the hotel as well.
My oldest was the victim of massive mosquito bites poolside in the evening there. It didn't happen in the parks though - so make sure to bring portable bug spray!

We have stayed at the AKL three times now all at different times of the year and we never had any issues with any smells at all. The keepers go out and clean the savannas everyday and the animals and the savannas are very well taken care of.

We were just there this past week and that is one of the things we talked about while sitting outside. Never did we smell anything and we never got bug bites while outside.
