We did Savor the Savannah on July 11th and was worried about the heat. However, the time at the Boma was amazing! It was incredibly quiet and we had the feel of being on a real safari, stopping for the evening. We didn't notice the heat although it was in the 90's with 50% humidity.
When we arrived, they served us Jamba Juice and they offered us sunscreen and bug repellent. The area was shaded and had benches. I had to use an
ECV this trip and they let me use it on the short walk to the safari vehicle. (The uneven terrain at AK is a problem for me.) A CM took it back to the loading area when we were done.
The safari portion was not as rough as a regular safari and was very informative. They pulled off the the side one time to allow an animal caretaker the opportunity to talk about the animals. She shared a lot of interesting info about the animals..... their names, quirks, likes, dislikes, etc.....
We were at the BOMA about an hour. It had a wide, open, expansive view of the savannah and we could see the regular safari trucks rolling past but they were not noisy. The back of the BOMA had a walkway to a platform that viewed the lions. Cool!
They offered infused water, Jamba Juice, a couple of beers and 3-4 wines. I'm not a drinker and we had our 14 yr DGD with us, so we drank the juice. We would have liked plain water but it was not available. The meal included an edible flour. The fruit salad was sweet but bursting with flavors. There was also proscuitto-type hams and a very tasty curry chicken salad. I'm not a curry fan but this was delicious! The main course was a hummus spread, a rolled salmon pinwheel that was very fresh and delicious, plus 2 seasoned shrimp. The meal tin also had 3 mini pita-type breads. Our dessert was also the smores cup.
I didn't expect to be so enthralled with the quiet calm and time at the BOMA. It was a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. While it was pricey if you don't enjoy the alcohol, it was worth the time and I really did savor the savannah!
