Hi I am looking for a review of the Savor the Savannah Tour at the AK.
I would also be interested in what food was served at the Mara stop on the Tour

First, I'm confused. If you mentioned Mara being a stop, did you mean AKL, the resort, instead of AK, the theme park? Wherever it is, I've never heard of it, so it must be a fairly new tour. I took the tour of AKL where they eat at Jiko and Boma, just a little sample, it's an hour tour, and I've enjoyed it. But this sounds new.

We did the tour, the 2nd day it was open. It was fantastic, worth every penny. We loaded a private vehicle and headed out to the savanah with our guide. The guide was amazing, lots of behind the scene information. We got to meet an animal keeper, ask him questions.

The stop area for food is called the Boma (not the restaurant). A real Boma is used like a safe spot in the savanah for rest/sleeping/eating.

As far as the food, it was more like appetizer type items. Each person received bread with olive oil and spices to dip. All of the items are cold; fruit salad, humus and pita, a shrimp, pinwheel wrap slices (prosciutto?) A wonderful smore dessert. I can not remember all of the food, but it was good. We ate a real dinner early, like 5PM and our tour was at 7:30.

There was good African wine and beer as well.

It was great!

I understand your confusion :-) We did the Wild Africa Trek a few years ago and I thought the stop on the savannah was called the Mara. But as @heidijanesmith stated, it is called the Boma. My bad!!!

Keep the reviews coming.
We are seriously considering this in the fall.

I have heard the food on the Savor the Savannah tour is the same/similar to the food on the Wild Africa Trek.

The stopping area is the same, but with the Savor tour, you can stay about an hour. Plenty of time for drinks, exploring and eating.

We did Savor the Savannah on July 11th and was worried about the heat. However, the time at the Boma was amazing! It was incredibly quiet and we had the feel of being on a real safari, stopping for the evening. We didn't notice the heat although it was in the 90's with 50% humidity.

When we arrived, they served us Jamba Juice and they offered us sunscreen and bug repellent. The area was shaded and had benches. I had to use an ECV this trip and they let me use it on the short walk to the safari vehicle. (The uneven terrain at AK is a problem for me.) A CM took it back to the loading area when we were done.

The safari portion was not as rough as a regular safari and was very informative. They pulled off the the side one time to allow an animal caretaker the opportunity to talk about the animals. She shared a lot of interesting info about the animals..... their names, quirks, likes, dislikes, etc.....

We were at the BOMA about an hour. It had a wide, open, expansive view of the savannah and we could see the regular safari trucks rolling past but they were not noisy. The back of the BOMA had a walkway to a platform that viewed the lions. Cool!

They offered infused water, Jamba Juice, a couple of beers and 3-4 wines. I'm not a drinker and we had our 14 yr DGD with us, so we drank the juice. We would have liked plain water but it was not available. The meal included an edible flour. The fruit salad was sweet but bursting with flavors. There was also proscuitto-type hams and a very tasty curry chicken salad. I'm not a curry fan but this was delicious! The main course was a hummus spread, a rolled salmon pinwheel that was very fresh and delicious, plus 2 seasoned shrimp. The meal tin also had 3 mini pita-type breads. Our dessert was also the smores cup.

I didn't expect to be so enthralled with the quiet calm and time at the BOMA. It was a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of the parks. While it was pricey if you don't enjoy the alcohol, it was worth the time and I really did savor the savannah!
