Hello,

Partner and I are celebrating 5 years together on our trip in January.

I would like to do a nice dinner at either Jiko or California Grill. We are not super fancy, but enjoy good food and ambience. Do the food options even compare or does one easily win against the other? I don't think we're too fussed about fireworks.

Additionally- I'd like to try Boma for breakfast. We are staying at POR, so we only want to make the trip to AKL once. Thoughts on Boma vs. Jiko as dining experiences?

Thanks!

If you are only wanting to make one trip to AKL, I would suggest doing it for the anniversary dinner at Jiko.

I like Jiko slightly ahead of CG (both are top 5 for me), and since you don't care about fireworks, then any "tiebreakers" are eliminated. :) The charcuterie and beef short ribs are fantastic, along with the filet and mac and cheese side that I sampled from my wife and DD's plates.

Boma is also good, but I personally wouldn't want to waste a morning traveling from POR to AKL for breakfast only.

Enjoy and Congrats!

Jiko --not only is the food highly rated and interesting, you will also love the resort after dinner..really wonderful place to walk around and see all the authentic African relics but also to go out on the decks to see the animals and sit by the fire pits (there is one in the lobby, one on the deck and one outside of the entrance to Sanaa) -- you can really have a lovely experience at AKL for dinner and after dinner
Have a great time and congratulations!

I love both Jiko and Cali Grill AND the breakfast at Boma! Since you only want to go to AKL once, I would do Boma breakfast (you can easily uber there from POR if you don't want to take the time using Disney buses). Cali Grill is very good and a little more "special" IMHO. I love the whole experience of being whisked up the special elevator and the view from both of the observation decks is stunning - you can see MK from one deck and DHS and EP from the other.

DH and I have done date nights at Cali Grill and Jiko, and you really can't go wrong with either. I love the fireworks at Cali Grill, but the atmosphere at AKL, especially at night, is super romantic. If romance is more important, then Jiko is perfect. You will definitely want to stroll around the resort afterwards. Perhaps have a drink at the resort bar or sit by the fire (they often have one inside and outside).

Boma vs Jiko is definitely a totally different experience. While I know there are so many fans of Boma we were not totally impressed. Very, very busy buffet and very unique items on the buffet. Not for "picky" eaters and I don't consider myself picky, I just would have much rather spent what we spent there at JIKO instead. We haven't been to Jiko in quite some time but plan to return in the near future.
As far as Cali Grill well that's a tough one as that is also a good choice. AK though, is a very unique resort and it's a nice change from the Disney parks' resorts areas. We used to go there a lot and make a night of it by going to Jiko and checking out the fire off the lobby by the savannah before it would get dark.
