Since I've heard that you can definatley do AK in one day, is it that important to be in the park right as it opens? We were planning on breakfast at Rain forest cafe b/4 entering the park, but if that will cause a problem, we are willing to skip it.

Can you get PS for the Rainforest Cafe before AK opens? If so, I would definitely do that.
I guess it depends on the crowds and how many shows you want to see. If the park is really busy and you want to see all of the shows (Lion King, Tarzan, etc.) you may not be able to work it all in if you eat while the park is open. On a side note, the animals are more active in the morning. Go first to the Safari ride.

I personally don't think AK is a park that you can do in less than a day but I know a lot of others disagree with me. I guess if you just want to hit a few highlights (Safari, Dinosaur, Lion King Show, etc..) then you could do it in less than a day but IMHO this park is one you really need time to spend exploring to appreciate it. We love AK and we could easily spend 1 1/2 days just for AK.

If you are going during a non-busy time you could still do breakfast before hand (get the earliest available time) and tour afterwards but you will have to sacrifice time spent watching the animals on the trails, etc.. It really just depends on how much you want to do. If you are at AK for the rides and maybe 1 or 2 shows you should be fine. If you want to spend time exploring you might run out of time.

We have res. at 8:30 which is when they open. I would hope that it wouldn't take more than an hour to eat but I know how to one hour could really mess up a schedule. We just want to go b/c our kids have never been to RFC before so we thought they may like it. We could also try for dinner but we were thinking about also doing Boma. Which would you do?

I agree completely with becka. You could do AK in a day or less but I don't recommend it if it is your first time visiting the park. AK is much different than the other parks. You need to go with a different mindset. The point is not to race from one attraction to the next. The point at AK is to realize that the entire park IS the attraction. Everywhere you turn, every path you take, every trail you explore has animals, carvings, scuptures, etc. If you go in commando mode you will miss so much of what AK has to offer. If you are following a path and you get to a fork in the road, take one side, then double back and check the other path. Don't assume they are the same - they're not. Heck, our first visit we probably spent at least 45 minutes in the queue area for ITTBAB. Not because it was crowded but because we were admiring and photographing all the animal carvings. We just let people pass us who were heading for the show.

I also think AK has a couple of the best shows on property: Lion King and Tarzan. These are both not to be missed.

If you are a nature/animal lover, you will find yourself spending a lot of time in this park. It is so unfortunate that the majority of guests just fail to appreciate this place and Disney has been forced to make changes to appeal to the more thrill-seeking people.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now.

We are going for 7 days. Two MK one for all the other parks. We've left two open to be able to go back and do what we missed. I was assuming we would need to go back to MGM, but it seems that most people think we should spend two in Epcot and now two in AK. We are going to have to stay longer next time!

My experience is that if your kids like animals (like my dd does) there is too much rushing if we try to do it all in one day....she likes to wander the trails and talk to all the animals, etc....Just my NSHO
