I keep reading in the guidebooks that the animals aAK dont like the heat...we will be going in JUne,,should we choose another park?WE have done EPCOT and MK,,we were gonna do AK AND MGM this time....

Hit animal kingdom (the things where you see the most animals) first thing in the morning when the animals are most active. After that check out the shows and rides.

We go in June early year and never had a hard time seeing the animals when we went early.

The guidebooks are incorrect on this one. Most of the animals at DAK are indigenous to Africa, so it's not like it's any hotter here than it is there. But even if it were, Animal Kingdom has "cool rocks" and misting areas and ample ponds and water areas for the animals so that they can stay cool and hydrated. There is just as much activity in the summer as in the winter. In fact, in the summer, you may find that different animals are active than the ones you see in the winter months. I've done the Safari in August ... I've done it in June ... I've been on it in March and December and April. I've seen active animals every time. The only ones less active in the heat of summer are the guests! :rotfl2:

Must have been my bad luck. :confused3 We went last June and rode the safari in the morning and saw very few animals. My kids were disappointed.

From experience...no two safaris are ever the same, and are not predictable. You can take the tour and see many elephants and no giraffe ...then go around again immediately and see just the opposite. Go around again and see neither or both. You may catch it right and see Bongo antelope moving through the forest and not see them next round. There really is no 'special time of day' to ride. Some species are more active in the mornings, while others more active in the early or late afternoons. Yet others just up and move for the heck of it and other species may follow. Some days the white rhino hide in the deep grass for the majority of the day, while other days they may be clearly visable along the roadside for a good portion of an afternoon. Some days I see no ostrich at all and others they are very visable.

I always recommend to ride at least twice. Get a fast pass for later, then get in the standby line for *now*....take the ride, and come back a bit later in the day and do it again....I bet what you see is completely different :)

We always see plenty of animals in AK in June, BUT the park IS too hot for humans then. We enjoy AK in the summer in small doses, but I would never, ever spend the day there. The tropical plants, narrow paths and small number of air conditioned attractions add up to its being unbearably hot. If you are buying one-park tickets, I would not do AK. If you can hop, eithe do it first thing or 3-closing.

I wouldn't avoid AK in June, but I would prepare for it to be hot. I don't think it affects the animals that much (I've never been on a bad safari in the summer). If you're worried about it, do the safari first and/or last, or if it rains (it is the rainy season - expect a quick afternoon shower) definitely do the safari in the rain or right afterwards! I would also drink lots of water and plan to do indoor rides - like Dinosaur, Tough to be a Bug, the Lion King show - in the afternoon when it's the hottest part of the day.

Enjoy!
