Airtran?

We fly Airtran an average of 6 times a year out of CAK and have had very few issues. I do think that flying out of such a small airport might have something to do with that.

24 hours before your flight, do your online checkin. You will be able to upgrade there.

:headache: Sorry, but I have another question please.

If you do your online check in 24 hours before departure time, isn't everyone else waiting for the 24 hour mark - say at 5:48pm to do online check in so they can upgrade to business class? :confused3

Like Dan said, you can check-in right at the 24 hour mark. I make sure I'm already signed in and ready to push the button, and we've always been able to upgrade. The price can vary, though, depending on the length of your flight. Since we always book a nonstop flight and have about an hour and a half flight, our fee is only $49. But that pays for checked luggage, when we have it, and we also get the other perks like Zone 1 boarding, dedicated carryon storage, first ones off the plane, and free alcoholic beverages.

In the past, we've waited until we got to the gate to upgrade and also never had a problem doing so.

Hope this helps! :)

Personally I love Air Tran. I fly four-six times a year with them. Now this past Dec they did change my nonstop/direct flight to one with a layover in Atlanta, but their customer service is great. If they change your time by just a few minutes, they will let you choose another flight, fly out on a different day, or even change airports for free. If none of those options work for you they'll refund your money. Other than the one time in Dec though, my flights have never changed by more than maybe 30 minutes at the most.

Also last Dec for the first time I saw them measuring checked bags. I've flown once with them since then though and didn't see it. You still need to make sure your checked bag is no bigger than 61" though, including wheels, handles, and any bulges.

Anyway we love Air Tran and are really dreading when Southwest takes them over.:sad1:

I have a question about this??
We are looking at booking out of Allentown but they only have 1 flight each day...if they cancel it is it possible to for them to put us on a flight out of Philadelphia at no extra charge?
What if they cancel just the outbound flight and we decide to drive, will they refund the entire roundtrip flight or just that first leg?

Most people aren't interested in paying more to upgrade -- I have never had any trouble upgrading.

I do the same, on the computer right at the 24 hour mark. And they mean 24 hours, not 23 and 59 minutes. I have tried early and it does not work. Liz is correct too. It seems initially, after I upgrade right at 24 hours, and look online at the avaialbe seating, my seat shows up there and most are still open. But looking over a few hours, they do fill in and by flight time, I do not recall all 12 BC seats as not being filled.

Yes, they will. For our last trip with them, we were booked out of Atlantic City, they changed the times and made our connection very tight. We were able to change to Philly with no problems. We wound up with non-stop flights and the price we paid was about 30% less than had we actually booked those exact flights out of Philly in the first place.
We just booked again, and to be honest, my wife is hoping they change our times again so we can change the flights again.

One important thing to note. Yes, they can change the flights, times and even the plane. Yes, you can then change things without the fee.
However, if they change your time and you are ok with the new time, double check your reservation!. They changed us once, and as a result we were on a different size plane. As a result even though we purchased 4 seats together, when they automatically rebooked us, our seats were no longer together. We had to call to get them changed.

But things worked out fine. We really like them. This will be our 3rd trip with them.

We've always flown AirTran and SWA and never had a problem. Last time was March 2010.

Thank you! :goodvibes

And thank you to Traveliz too!

That's good to know too. :) I figure since I got such cheap airfare I might as well try for an upgrade. :goodvibes

We've flown southwest the past 2 times but this year we're flying airtran. Southwest couldn't even come close to what we paid for Airtran (PHL-MCO). I really don't care who we fly with or where we sit as long as me and my family get where we're going safely.
