Has anyone ever flown with AirTran? We are considering them for our upcomming trip in May '06, due to there resonable fares from Charlotte NC to Orlando. But a little concern since we normally don't fly.

We've used them on more than one occasion and were never disappointed! They are the first airline I check when flying somewhere.

We've used them twice on our WDW trips. Both times we flew out of Philly and have nothing but good things to say about Air Tran.

Great low cost carrier, featuring an excellent line of brand spankin' new Boeing 717's. Also, they have free XM satalite radio on most of their flights. The only thing I don't like about them is that virtually every flight is into Atlanta (not one of my favorite airports ;) )

Flown Airtran out of Charlotte numerous times with no problems.

Couple of flights ago when I was showing Airtran employee my boarding pass at the gate she said my seat had been reassigned. I said I liked the seat I had because it was on the aisle and I could stretch out my bum knee a little bit. She then said I could keep seat if I wanted to but she was moving me upfront to business class if I wanted to sit there. Told her I'd be glad to move. Imagine my surprise when a couple minutes after I sat in my new location the boarding agent from the gate came on the plane and asked me if seat worked okay with my knee. Some kind of flashback to 1950s customer service.

Can someone tell me how seats are assigned? I have this fear of our family of 3 (8 year-old daughter included) being split up. I know that with Delta and other airlines you get to see and pick seats. How does this work with Airtran? TIA

AirTran allows you to get on their web site and pick your seats 24 hours up to 90 minutes before your flight. We have done this numerous times with no problems. I have read recent posts about people getting on to pick out seats and have found that seats have already been assigned to them. From my understanding you can override the seats assigned and pick out different ones if you want. It's a really easy set-up to pick the seats and print your boarding passes.
I agree with everyone that AirTran is a good airline with newer planes and really great employees. However, I must add that the one complaint I have (and many other posters) is that they are always changing their schedules.
I suggest you take the first flight out in the morning since they don't usually move this more than a few minutes either way. Coming back is another story. Last year I debated whether to take the 2pm or 4pm flight home. I figured I wanted our last day at WDW to last as long as possible so I picked the 4pm. Turned out it was a good idea since they cancelled the 2pm. Sometimes they cancel flights, but normally they change their departure time.....sometimes by quite a bit. Keep an eye on their on-line schedules even after you book. The trip before last year they changed our flight time and I found out via their web site. They eventually sent me an e-mail about it but it came way after I found out about the change.

Thanks wdwgoofeeee for replying to my question. We haven't seen a price yet that we could live with so we will probably end up driving, but it's good to know this information just in case!!
