Hi, anyone from the Cleveland area fly out of both Hopkins and Akron airport. We are not seasoned travelers (only travel Continental from Cleveland to Disney for every vacation, we go nowhere else!).

I see commercials for Akron canton airport but don't know anyone that's flown out of it and also don't know anyone that's flown Airtan. We can save almost $100/ticket if we choose Airtran. Any advice is appreciated!

Absolutely I would do CAK and Airtran over Cleveland. Nice small airport, usually not crowded, convenient on-site parking. Easy access right off I-77. It's a great airport.

Once you fly out of Akron you won't want to go back to Cleveland! We live 20 minutes west of Cleveland airport but prefer to fly out of Akron. You can park the car, hop on the shuttle van and be through security and at your gate in less than 20 minutes!

If you are taking an early morning flight there is a Hilton Garden Inn hotel next to the airport that also has park and fly rates.

We love flying on Airtran.

The airport parking costs are about the same as Cleveland.

We usually fly Airtran out of CAK if we pay for flights and Continental out CLE if DH has enough FF miles for free flights.

I much prefer CAK. In fact, for our upcoming September trip I chose to hold onto the FF miles and pay for Airtran flights since we will have an infant this time and want as little stress as possible.

CAK is a great little airport! :goodvibes I prefer to use it over CLE. The best part is how quick it is to park, check in, get through security and be at your gate (as a pp mentioned).

I'm less than 15 minutes from CLE and we have done CAK several times. Southwest has basically ended non-stops CLE-MCO so we haven't flown them in a few years. Airtan is frequently cheaper than Continental. These are the only 2 airlines with non-stops to MCO anymore from the Cleveland area. Basically, I'll go with whoever is cheaper. Airtran won this year by nearly $200 less. The biggest complaint about Airtran is frequent schedule changes. OTOH....they are easy to work with in this regard to change you to a flight (even a more expensive one or even different days) at no charge.....or offer full refunds. Haven't had any complaints about them yet. They, like SW, will give you credit if your flight goes down in price. All you have to do it call.

As for CAK, the airport is a breeze to get in and out of. No real need to arrive any earlier than 1 hour before. Easy parking if you need to leave a car. The security line our last trip consisted of 5 people.......and our family was 4 of them.

regards

We live a short distance from CAK and it has always been my number one airport.:thumbsup2 Even when we lived equal distance between CAK and CLE. As everyone else has mentioned, it is easy and quick (unless you have to de-ice!) and we've had no complaints with Airtran. They sent our luggage to San Fran instead of MCO last trip, but that can happen with any airline. Airtran is almost always cheaper. Waiting to see what, if any, changes will be made now that they are owned by Southwest. Hoping the baggage fee will go away!;)
