How much additional is it if you choose to select a seat at time of purchase. Has anyone flown since this option has been available? Were the seats together sold out?

Can you only do this at the time of purchase or could I request (and pay for) chosen seats after the trip is booked but still 3 months(ish) before we fly?
You can now select your seats either at the time of booking or any time before your flight at a cost of $5 pp each way ($15 for an exit row seat). You can still check in online and select your seats 24 hours before your flight at no cost.

Thanks i just went to their site and found it I think I will call and have them add to our flight that we have already booked. thanks for this thread I would have never known.
This board is simply awesome! I had no idea until I just read this post that I could choose our seats for AirTran! Was just on their site and I have our seat assignments for our Nov trip. Thanks for the info!
Yep. I found out about this on the day they started it.
More tips...
If it was booked directly with Airtran site, you can pick your seats right on the AirTran site. If you booked from Travelocity, or anything like that, you just have to call them cause the online system lets you go to the payment system, and then declines it, they should stop you sooner.
Wonder if this is different when using a TA to book flights? We booked our flights through AAA back in March (we were just in WDW last week) and our TA reserved our seats right on the spot as she booked the flights for no extra charge. Just wondering for in the future if it is different when booking through a TA than directly yourself.....
Some TAs can book seats in advance. However, make sure you check. My TA does not always have the "web fare" options....so the ticket costs more.
Considering the success of this on the DIS don't be surprised if all of the airlines go to this $5 charge soon. (IMHO AirTran is not any cheaper out of my airport then DL so why shouldn't DL start charging?)
