Airtran has no advance seating

I just found out that if you purchased your Airtran tickets through Disney you do not get your seats until you go to the airport. The Airtran clerk told me on the phone that our family might have to be split up. Has anyone had thier family split up on a Disney flight?

My DD and I checked in three hours ahead of the flight time, in Dec 2006. We got the last two seats in the last row (no window; lots of noise!!). I noticed there were lots of people sitting in scattered rows. We could not check in ahead of time because we had paper tickets form AAA. I will never book my tickets again on anything but the internet!

I have Air Trans tickets I purchased direct from their web site. They are web special tickets. You cannot select seats at the time of purchase with the web specials. I was told I wouldn't have a problem as long as I check-in online 24 hours prior to my flight. I'm not too worried about it as we have friends that fly Air Trans all the time.

That does not sound promising. I wish Disney told us that we could not check in 24 hours before the flight. We also have paper tickets. I will never buy tickets from Disney again.

I believe Disney can select seats for you. I'm a TA and when we book Airtran flights, we are able to select seats at purchase, no matter what the fare level. Just call Disney and find out if they already picked seats for you, they may have. I know they will also give you paper tickets, so you won't be able to check in online at the 24 hour mark.

Airtran has a few different fares, with their lowest fare you can not pick your seats until 24 hours prior to your flight. And the others you can pick the seats when you book.
As another poster indicated see if Disney Travel can chose your seats for you now. That said, we flew Airtran a few years ago, we chose our seats at the 24 hour mark, there were 7 of us and we all sat together.

I don't think the paper tickets you get from Disney keep you from going online to get your seats.

I talked with Disney again. They said that it was Air Trans policy not to give out seats (when buying from Disney) until the day of the flight. I asked to speak to a manager. I told him I disappointed that our family could be split up. I then told him that my son has asthma and that it would be better if we were all sitting together. The CM said that it was noted on our reservation that we had two asthma cases. Then he said since it is medical they would make sure we were sitting together.

I guess it pays to keep asking.

I was concerned about this police when I was flying to MCO from ATL with my DD who was 4 yo at the time. When I checked in they assured my they would never separate a young child from at least one of their parents.
