For anyone shopping flights from Detroit to MCO - we finally snagged a great deal at 5:00 am this morning!

Round-trip, nonstop flights DTW-MCO were $191 per person (DTW-MCO was $107 and MCO-DTW was $84). With taxes and a $6 per seat cost, we were still under $600 for the 3 of us. That's nearly half of the total costs that I've been finding recently while comparing airlines.

We've pretty much only compared three airlines: Airtran, Delta & Southwest since we will only do the nonstop flights. Sometimes I will consider Spirit, if the price is low enough, but their add-on costs are typically too much and don't compete well with what we find on the other carriers.

Anyway, the price dropped for literally 1-2 minutes...just long enough to snag them!! As soon as we finished, the outgoing flight was already back to $154. Maybe early morning is a great time to check?? :thumbsup2

We also got 3 tickets on AirTran pit-mco for under $600 including taxes and seating fees. Luggage fee will put us over the top, but it still works great for us.

I ordinarily hate nonstops, but it's a must with DD (5), even if we are getting in on a Sunday at about 10 by the time we grab the bags and rent car.

:thumbsup2 I booked on airtran out of Detroit on Monday for $84 each way for our late September trip. The total for our family of 5 was just over $1000 with taxes, fees and picking our seat numbers. When Southwest came out with their September prices I had resigned myself that it was going to cost us around $1500 to fly so the airtran prices were a pleasant surprise. No way I was waiting to see if something better came along.

Now you have me thinking maybe I should book our trip for Jan with Delta as I can get tickets from DTW to TPA for $199 a person.

That is great, but I have a question.

I have checked Airtran for our upcoming dates (even on the last trip we took) and it always says "no flights listed".

How do you know that they are flights on the days you need to fly?

Thanks (sorry OP don't wish to hijack your thread, just curious)

AirTran hasn't opened their schedule out through October yet. I'm also waiting for Oct dates and keep hoping they'll open up soon. I could book our flight down already but they haven't posted flights for our trip home. Should be soon that they open the rest of October. :)
