I can't seem to find answers on their web site without actually going through the booking process...or maybe I just can't navigate their web site. We have flown Air Tran before but they are now charging more for seats in the front of the plane....and I think before assigned seats were just $10 anywhere on the plane. What are the current seat assignment fees for certain rows on the plane? If the flight is connecting do you pay the extra $13 or $15 for each segment of the flight? How much is the 1st checked bag on AirTran? 2nd?

One last question...the current fares for our January flight dates are pretty good but was wondering if there is any chance they might go down a little more in the next few weeks. Current fare is $233 before the seat assignment fees for STL to MCO for the flights we want.

What are the current seat assignment fees for certain rows on the plane? Different rows are charged different prices. You will be able to see the price for each as you go through the booking process. I believe the price ranges from $6-$15 (front rows and exit rows are the highest priced)

If the flight is connecting do you pay the extra $13 or $15 for each segment of the flight? Not positive but I believe that price is per direction flown regardless of segments.

How much is the 1st checked bag on AirTran? 2nd? Last year I paid $15 for the first bag per person. 2nd is more - $40, maybe?

When pricing airfare last year, I did a dry run booking by stopping right at the "enter credit card info" spot.

Thank you! I did just that and got my answer. It is $13 each way, not each segment for the seats I want. We can't be in the exit row which is $20 each way because we have an 8 year old.

That's interesting as I just purchased tickets for my wife yesterday and only paid $6 for the seat. This is a non-stop flight so that may be why it's only 6 but I didn't think they charged for connecting.

Or was it $12 total for round trip for you? That would be the same charge we got as well.

*Edited to add*

I believe there was a $13 for selected seats as well, but we just used the regular seats. I believe they were highlighted in green on the site. Could that be the difference?

We want seats closer to the front of the plane so that we may board earlier. We have a special needs child. Those seats are more and yes they were green highlighted. I believe I priced out seats in row 15.

Don't they board from the back of the plane to the front? I believe having a special needs child entitles you to board ahead of everyone. You might want to check that out.

Yes we have done preboarding (after First Class) with our daughter but our seats were always at the back... I swore I read somewhere on AirTran's site that when you pay for seat assignments in the green section you got to board earlier than general boarding. I might be wrong. Either way, I will ask the gate agents and let them know about my child like we always do.

When you book one of the seats in the green section, near the front of the plane but behind business class, you're in the first boarding group. It's usually the $13 or $15 seats. I'm flying Airtran next week & I booked one of the $13 seats. I got an email the day after I booked the flight with a code for free wifi during the flight because I booked one of the preferred seats. (I think I have seat 15A)

Rows 12 and 14 are $15.00 seats, rows 15 and 16 are $13.00 seats, and row 18 are $20.00 exit row seats. All will give you boarding zone 1, as long as you paid for those seats. If you choose them for free at the 24 hour mark, you get boarding zone 7. All other seats (except business class, of course) are $6.00. Air Tran boards by zone-usually the only preboards they allow are wheelchairs and Make a Wish Kids, then they board business class and the rest of Zone 1. They then board zone 2, then zone 3, then zone 4, etc. They board in a alternating pattern, back to front, then middle, etc. They will make the announcement that if your party has more than one boarding zone, all members of that party may board with the lowest zone. For example, my mom once had a window seat, I was in the middle, and my husband had an aisle seat, all in the same row. We had three different boarding zones, but were all able to board with my mom, who had the lowest. If you are in boarding zone 7 there is a very good chance there will be no overhead space left and they will gate check your carryons. If you want to make sure you have overhead space and want to be one of the first on the plane, then pay for those $15.00 or $13.00 seats. You pay the $15.00 or $13.00 fee once going and once coming home, no matter how many plane changes you may have to make.

The first checked bag is $20.00, the second is $25.00 and if a person has more than two bags, then it's an additional $50.00 for each bag over two. Each ticketed person is entitled to one free carry on and one personal item. Measure your checked bag though. For some reason Air Tran's maximum size for a checked bag is an inch smaller than industry standard (61" vs 62"). I've seen them measuring bags twice this year. On the other hand their allowance for a carry on is bigger than industry standard (55" vs 45"), but please don't try to carry on a 55" bag. They really don't usually fit wheels first into the overhead and I've seen alot of people have to check them. It's always funny to watch someone trying to squeeze one of those big 55" bags into the overhead. The FA will be standing there telling them it won't fit and they'll gate check it, but the guy just keeps trying to force it in, saying he measured it and knows it will fit. Uh, no it doesn't.

As far as price, I check airfare frequently and know what they run out of my airport to the places I go. Once they fall below that price, I usually grab them. Continue to keep an eye on them though. If the price drops anymore, you can call and get a voucher number for the difference (make sure you apply for an A+ Rewards account, prior to booking). You can then use that voucher to pay for your luggage or seat fees.

Thank you aubriee! All of questions have been answered. Now if I can get sis-in-law to pay up, I am going to make plane reservations for all of us ASAP.
