Airtran December

The flights from BMI for Dec. 20 went down from 143 to 127 yesterday--except the non-stop. We decided to book as a group, so we have our flights on "hold" at $143 until Wednesday. Hope the non-stop drops by then. $16 isn't much savings for a family of 4 but for 10 people that adds up.

When the return flights come out, I'm leaning toward waiting for a later flight too. Thanks for your tips Nancy!

Since your flights are much closer to Christmas than mine, you were wise to book your outbound flights now @ $143. If the price drops, you can use the credit for seat assignments and luggage fees.

They should continue to drop. Price of oil is dropping another 3-5% today as the US releases strategic oil reserves.

A large portion of the price increases are not related to fuel pricing. Airlines are finally waking up to the fact that they cannot afford to fly us to Orlando for $49. So they have cut back on the number of flights. The goal is to get the demand and pricing to a point where they actually make money.

Seiously, can someone help me understand their game? On the first day of date release a one way from Lex to MCO is $359? Same as business class? This flight is usually under $100 all the time. I know it's Dec 26 that I am looking at but what can I expect with this? Do they start high and come down? That is outrageous!!!!:headache:

$408 fromOrlando to Bloomington-Normal on December 26th. I wonder who's going to pay that? Not me! I'll be checking weekly until they come to there senses.

Their prices are usually high like that when they are first available to book. They'll come down in a few days.

It was the weirdest thing....today was the first day that Dec 26 was released. All of the travel sites (travelocity, expedia, orbitz) all had the same flight for $96. HOWEVER, when you went to book it at that rate it was no longer available. Trust me....I tried them all:worship:

I wonder if that is going to be the final price of the flight? Weird that they all had the same price except Airtran...which had the same price ($359) as their business class?

I noticed the same thing today. Kayak was showing fares from NYC airports for $215 but when I filled out all info and hit submit payment it gave error. I tried this several times with no luck.

I've been checking fares for Xmas week from NYC for months. All I see is $600 fares or worse. I've never seen anything like it. The best I've found is two one-way flights from Delta and jetBlue for about $500 R/T. Still an absurd price. I don't know what to do. I was praying Airtran would be reasonable but they are showing about $700 per ticket. Outrageous.

Airtran's rates came down today for the week between Christmas and New Years for our return trip from Orlando to BMI. Right now, our return flights are priced at $169. Not great, but not horrible. Hopefully they will come down a little more.

Some days of the week are more expensive than others. There are $143 fares on Tuesday and Wednesday (12/27 & 28), including the 8:14 a.m. non-stop on the 27th. They are $127 on Dec. 24 and 25 - but who wants to go home then!

Lex to MCO droppped from $359 to $319......a long way from reasonable for a one way fare!

I saw a fare last night for $295 R/T from White Plains to MCO, non-stop. I jumped on it. Haven't seen anything that low this year. $414 was the best I saw from JFK to TPA on JetBlue. Now I just have to hope AirTran doesn't add a stop or change the departure time too badly.

When I checked fares from BMI-MCO today (Friday, July 1), I was surprised to see they had gone from $143 + taxes for the non-stop to $109 each way. :) This wasn't an advertised sale, so I'm wondering if I should buy now or wait until the next almost-weekly sale that includes flights into December? At least if I buy now and the fare goes down, I'll get a credit to use on a future flight or to pay for baggage charges.

**I decided to go ahead and buy my Dec. 3 ticket. After I did so, I received an e-mail from AirTran - announcing a sale through July 4 for travel through Dec. 14! The $109 fare IS the sale fare - whew!

Something is very strange...I have been trying to get DFW to MCO round trip flights on Air Train since May and every time I search, including today, no flights are available. But I see other people saying that December fares have already been opened up? My dates are 12/8 to 12/17. What gives? :confused3

ETA: Nevermind...just found out why. Crap! I guess that means no more budget airfare...UGH

I'm wondering the same thing?!?! oops- i just read your link. now i get it.

A customer service rep from AirTran told me there will be no service from DFW after November.

We flew on AirTran last month and had soaking wet luggage. They gave us a credit for future travel, but it was rather confusing trying to sort out if I will be able to use those credits on SW since there won't BE Airtran in this market after November.
