Airtran credit and baggage question

I posted this on the 'participating airlines' sticky but not sure if anyone sees it so...we have a credit with Airtran for airfare going down. The lady said we could use it for baggage but would have to call them to have it credited ahead of time which is fine, and then do online checkin.

That is fine for the way down but when we leave and want to use RAC can we do that do you know? Call Airtran, prepay with the credit, do online checkin and then just give RAC our bags and get our boarding passes printed?

I flew with them in Oct. and had a huge credit to work with. Airtran kept telling me I could us the funds to pay for my bags. Once at Disney though no one could figure out how to do that except carry our own luggage to the airport and pay for our bags their at the Airtran counter. Everyone kept telling us that to use the credit we had for baggage we only had one option and that was through the computer system only at the airport desk. We had already deceided to just pay for our seats ahead of time ( with a coupon we had ) and check in at the RAC desk. I would have to say very easy. DH would not budge on us taking our luggage. I hope someone else can help, we fly again this June and would love to know the secret.

I was told by Airtran customer service that the credit could not be used during online check-in. The credit would have to be manually pulled up through the computer system during check-in at the airport and be applied by the agent at the counter. So...I have to decide if I want to do that or not. My other option was to apply that credit to A+ account for future travel.

Hmm and the lady I spoke with said I could call them and have them use the credit and pay for bags on the phone and then do online checkin..which is great for the way down..if that is true, just not sure about the way back

I hope you find out for sure. I tried really hard and spoke to the RAC desk person at Disney on several different days. Everyone said it was not possible using RAC. It could be done if we wanted to take our luggage on the ME bus. We flew on Oct 11, 2010. I still have a nice credit I plan on using this June.

Yes...I hate getting conflicting information. She said nothing about being able to call ahead. She said there was no way to use the credit during online check-in. That it could only be used at the airport counter.
