We recently found out our friends are planning a WDW trip the exact same time as us.:) The emailed us yesterday saying that if we booked on airtran, that they were cancelling all nonstop flights to MCO and Disney was trying to contact people to let them know of the change.

We did book through Airtran, but on their website, not through WDW reservation system. There is nothing on either website about this and we haven't received any notification. Is this a vicious rumor or what?:confused3

BTW, we are flying out of Philadelphia.

There is no way that Airtran can cancel all non-stop flights into MCO. The do tend to tweek their schedules and have dropped non-stop flights from certain destinations at times. Your best bet is to keep an eye on Airtran.com and if they do make a change, be prepared to call to make changes. Airtran is very accomodating if THEY make the change and will change you to a better flight for free.....

I watch my Airtran flights daily by checking my itinerary and have already caught 1 change. That catch allowed me to extend my vacation by an extra day since they changed my flight to an earlier time... they won't just post something on their home page...

Best of luck and keep an eye on them, don't wait for the confirmation email.

Obviously a flight to MCO has to originate somewhere. Airtran can't literally cancel all their N/S flights to Orlando. They could eliminate N/S flight from most airports and have most passengers connect in one or two airports. Southwest removed a lot of N/S flights to MCO. An increasing number of passengers connect in airports like BWI.

I suspect the OP meant to say was she heard airtran was canceling all N/S flights from PHL to MCO.

edited to add-- I guess an airline could use FLL as a hub. Requiring passengers flying to MCO connect at FLL would almost (effectively) eliminate N/S service. Passengers originating in the FLL are much more likely to drive then fly.

When is your flight?

I doubt this is the case and I just checked and Air Tran is still offering non-stop flights through June.

Airtran is listing 3 non-stops each way on your dates. Some are $67 or $69 per way. So, if you paid more than that, check your flights and you may be able to call to get a credit towards a future flight...... so, as of now, they have the non-stops still on the schedule so I have no idea how Disney says they are trying to contact people about the change when Airtran themselves don't have the changes listed on their site.....

Until confirmed otherwise, I would assume it is not true that Air Tran is cancelling all non stops to MCO. That just doesn't sound right.

I suspected as much. I don't know what my friend was talking about.:confused3 I'm thinking maybe their one flight in the morning got changed and they assumed it was all of the nonstop flights. As long as it wasn't mine!;)

Did I mention the finders fee? :)

Not to hijack the thread, but this had me wondering...

Has anyone heard if the merger with Southwest is impacting schedules in 2011? We sometimes fly AT out of Rochester but I haven't been hearing anything about the merger lately.

What merger?

FYI, the merger shouldn't affect anything for a while yet. This was just announced a few months ago and these things normally take 18-24 months to pan out, so I wouldn't expect any changes until at least early 2012.
