Airtran is very accommodating,
I didn't read Air Tran's policy
Gibsontrio... I fly with Delta but do not count on their notification system if a flight is changed. I booked with them shortly after flights were announced for my dates (11 months out). For the first couple months, I check online about once a month. Now I'm checking at least once every other week. As we get closer, I'll check once a week, and then probably get to every day or so.
Yes, it's a pain, but it really only takes a couple minutes since I'm generally online anyway. As far as how to do it... I login to my skymiles account (I signed up a couple years ago, MAYBE travel once a year, so it's not like I'm racking up the miles), and then 'check my itineraries'. I will be shown on that page (the one that lists flights & times) whether there's been changes... I don't have to pay attention to the times, the website will say 'there's been a change, click OK to accept' or something like that.
For this trip, they've made some minor (ie: <30min changes) and one major (>1hr) change. The major change was the one I was waiting for. Once I saw that, I started a new browser tab, DIDN'T log in to Delta, but did a search for my dates and found the best possible flight. Once I had that, I tried changing my flights online with no fee, and that didn't work, so I called and said the new flights THEY picked wouldn't work, but flight xyz connecting to abc WOULD work. So now, instead of arriving at MCO @ 10p, we arrive at 6:30p.
So changes CAN work in your favor.
Good luck!
