What do you do to kill time at airports? It would also be neat to see if anyone has any airport specific info on interesting things to do at each airport.

For this trip, I'll be flying out of Detroit (staying at the Westin Hotel there) and then having a stop for an hour or so in Nashville.

Feel free to add any airports for interest!!! :goodvibes

With only an hour or so, I'd use the ladies room, buy a snack or drink if I were hungry, find my next gate and have a seat. In most cases they start boarding half an hour before you take off, so you really don't have a lot of time to kill.

It depends on the airport as some are better than others for "roaming" :) Since they don't serve anything approaching food on most flights these days, we sometimes grab a quick bite if there is time and the eateries are appealing. It's nice to try regional specialties if they're available. Some airports have interesting stores, although we rarely purchase anything except for maybe a magazine or paper. I enjoy walking around MCO - folks are invariably excited when they get there.....and such long faces when they are heading home (including ours!).

Which Airline Will You Be Flying?

If your flying Southwest (Nashville Stop Likly) theres not much to do in that terminal....

BTW--DTW is the biggest armpit of an airport that I've ever been in. Nothing good to do in that one except leave, asap.

Will the restaurants/stores be open in the airports? We have almost 3 hour layover in Charlotte. I know they have a mini mall inside but am not sure if anything will be open.

I disagree if she is flying out of the new McNamara Terminal on either NWA, Con or Delta. The new terminal is very nice with elevated trains, a great "ice tunnel' between the A/B/C gates and tons of choices for shopping and food.

If the OP is flying SWA or SPIRIT, then they'll use the old SMITH terminal which is as 3rd world as they get. However, last week demolition began on the old NWA terminal and a replacement is being built to house SWA, SPITIT and AirTran.

Nashville (BNA) doesn't have a lot of really great choices for food other than an Italian pizza place and some fast food places on the gate side of security. If you choose to go past security at BNA, there is a decent restaurant that we have had a few good meals at on a layover.

BNA does have a place that you can get a chair massage or your nails done while you wait!
