Airport vs. Hotel Rental Car

Staying at Caribe Royale, planning on renting from the Hertz desk at the hotel and taking cab to and from airport. Family of 4, four carry-ons. Have not stayed off-site before. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

1. On average car rental costs are less for airport rentals even though airport fees and taxes unique to airport rentals are added in.

2. When you rent at the airport you eliminate the need to pay for a taxi to and from your hotel.

Now if you need the car for only a small fraction of your stay then it may be better to rent at the resort.

I just looked up the cost for taking a cab for 4 people (2 adults 2 kids) the price will be $122 roundtrip and that does not include tip.

I would rent a car at the airport.
The past two trip we took (2011 & 2012) we were able to rent a mid size for a week and paid less than $100! Just have to wait till about 2 weeks before your trip to get a good rate. That is when the car companies release their last minute rates.
