Airport Transportation to and from Long Beach Airport?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to rent a car. We will be at Disney 4 nights/5days. We don't care to do any other Southern California or LA things as we have already done those and once is enough for me in that area.

Parking is free at my hotel... so depending on rental car deals - I could go either way. Just looking for the most cost effective plan!

Assuming I didn't rent a car:
What airport transportation is the best/most affordable from Long Beach?
About how much for 2 people and luggage each way? (Airport to HoJo and Back)

The only transportation I have used from LGB is a taxi and it was approx 40 one way incl. tip (but this was a few years ago).

One thing you need to understand about taxi's is that they are under contract with the airports to provide a flat rate to DLR area, but are under no such requirement for the return trip to the airport, so while you may pay a flat rate of approx $40 to your hotel, they will want to charge you meter prices for the return trip, which can be quite a bit more. I ended up negotiating a flat rate back to the airport before getting in the cab.

HTH.

I was told a taxi would be roughly $60 each way, but could be more if we get stuck in traffic since it's not a flat rate. We opted to rent a car since it worked out to about the same price as the taxi estimate and it's just easier with car seats and gives us the flexibility to drive to the grocery store, etc. Enterprise had the best rental rates for our dates so you can check them out. Or, try priceline and you can probably get an even better rate if you're flexible on the rental company.

With 2 people, you could probably get an economy car for cheap. We have always taken a van taxi (same price as a car taxi) and it is $45 flat rate to the hotel, but coming back some do not charge a flat rate so it may end up being $55 coming back. There is a car rental place right across the street when you walk out right next to the taxi waiting area you could go ask when you get there and see what the price difference is. You can also check shuttles, I have never taken one so I don't know the price, but they charge per person so it might be cheaper than a taxi since you only have 2.

Like the poster above suggested, I'd check into a shuttle service from the airport. I haven't taken one from Long Beach, but I did from LAX years ago. The difference between a van and a cab is that it is a flat rate and the meter is not ticking. Something that could cost you a great deal extra in LA/OC traffic jams. They also don't seem to have a problem with luggage and don't charge extra for that (at least in my experience). You can check on the airport's site for that. I know in my local area, we reserve them from the house (we ALWAYS tell them our flight is leaving an hour earlier than it is, as they may pick up other people to fill the van, it's not their problem if you miss your flight). We then use ART from the hotel, and avoid parking fees at the park. ART is only a few dollars a day per person, drops you off very close to the park entrance and from HoJo's only stops at a few other nearby hotels to pick people up. ART also allows members of your party to go back at different times if you so desire. I've heard some complaints about it, but frankly, we've been there at least 10 times, since they've had it, staying at several hotels and we've never had a problem.

We have used Supershuttle. Google for that and others and then call for a price and to ask questions about how it works. At our local airports, we just walk out to a designated area and take the next one available.

http://www.californiasupershuttle.com/ this is the least expensive shuttle and it is private. No stopping for other people or waiting for others to join you. We are a family of 4 and its $52 each way! No better deal for a shuttle and YOU don't have to deal with the traffic, just enjoy your ride in their comfy van. They are the only ones we use when we go. They have always been on time or early and load/unload your luggage for you. Also there is no scary driving. Some shuttles I've ridden in else where scared me to death...thought they were going to crash or tip over! Hope this helps!

Thanks, your post convinced me to give this service a try. I'm going to call tomorrow to see what it will be from John Wayne to GCR. Thanks a bunch!

That's good to know. That's a really reasonable price, especially when you consider a taxi's meter running in a traffic jam, not to mention extra for luggage, etc. Wish they had that service around here. We've had a party of 3 and made 2 or 3 stops on the way and the way back, all over our valley, and sometimes had people not be ready and delayed us even further, that's why we added the extra hour.

I just made a reservation with the californiasupershuttle.com. I told them they were recommended for their safe driving. They quoted me 52.00 for our family of 4 and I even told them I'd have a stroller and carseat! I'll report back after our trip!

We fly in & out of LGB for our DLR trips. We use a car service that I highly recommend to anyone ~ we pay $50 each way and we've always had 5 people with us so that's not bad.

Our drivers name is Ron and his business card says VIP Service (Kim Sontha Transportation). The number is (562) 396-8106 (company number) OR the number where he has always answered is 562-895-6713. We've had a Toyota Highlander & Lexus SUV for our past trips.

Dinseymomma,
We used them in November from your recommendation and cannot say enough good things about them. So prompt and easy to work with!!!

We just got back from a trip a few days ago through LGB and used flat-rate taxis both ways without any problems.

At the airport, the taxi's have flat rate pricing they must follow. The rates are listed here: www .longbeach.gov/airport/transport/rentals.asp (sorry, I am not allowed to link this for you...) and are also posted prominently at the airport as you approach the taxi waiting area. Currently this is $44 to Disneyland.

To return to LGB, Anaheim Yellow Cab (1-800-4MY-TAXI) offers flat rate pricing at this page: www .anaheim-yellowcab.com/AirportService.html Currently this is $45 from disney area (92802). To get this you MUST call the number and specifically ask for the flat rate when you reserve the cab. We reserved ours in the morning for an afternoon flight, and he was there at the hotel right on time.

We had minivans in both directions that would hold six, and these are priced for the trip, not per person, so can save a lot over shuttles.

So it looks like I need to budget around $100 for transportation both ways. Maybe I could get lucky and find an economy rental for cheaper??? Haha! Doubt it!

Thanks for all the tips guys!!! This is some GREAT info!

Thanks for the tip about the flat rate on the trip back to the airport. I knew about the flat rate from LGB to Disneyland but I didn't know how to get a flat rate for the return trip.

I love all the useful information I get from the Disboards!

I've been debating the same thing. I grew up in So. Cal so am familiar with freeways and do have a few places and restaurants I like to visit when down south. That said, it is a pain to have a car and I'm pretty sure our hotel - the Anaheim Sheraton - charges for parking.

The cheapest I've found is $21 a day. But add in taxes and it's $31. Add $10 or $15 for a parking fee and it's not worth it. I do have friends close by so I guess they'll just have to drive to DL to see us!

Do they not have the shuttle vans like from John Wayne or LAX!?
Yes, they do but they are not there waiting. You can call and have SuperShuttle come pick you up if you would like. The only transportation outside waiting is the Cab company.
