DH is leaving tomorrow for his business trip to Dis and DS4 and I will be following down on Wednesday.

We are a little concerned with our camcorder going through the X-ray machine. I'll be video taping our son's reaction to finding out he's going to Disney as well as trying to tape his Disney Enchanted call from Mickey (we have speaker phone on our cordless). This is a very special morning and one that is precious and priceless to us. I don't want to video tape DS and find out once we get to Dis that the X-ray machine erased our tape :scared: . DH is not able to see our son's reaction so I told him I'd video tape it for him to see when we get down there.

I've already called the airport and of course got the usual "there's no gaurantee, etc." but was told there shouldn't be a problem.

Am I being overly worried? How have your experiences been? Thanks for your help!

We had ours in our carry on and it went through the x-ray. Just watched it last night and it is fine.

Should not be a problem at all. Definitely not if it is a digital camcorder.

I've never heard of problems with video tape, just high speed film.

The only problems that you will encounter with any recording media is with unprocessed (exposed or unexposed, regardless of the speed, the scans are cumulative) photographic film or movie film. Your video camera does not use either of those. So, no worries, go and enjoy.

Thank you!!!! That's a load off of my shoulders and now I can somewhat relax :). I still have to help DH with his packing tonight since he leaves tomorrow (yeah, I'm jealous, he gets there before DS4 and I) :goodvibes

And do not tape ANYWHERE in the security area.... regardless of what you might want... that will cause problems. (The TSA honestly thinks that "forbidding video and photos" keeps you safe......)

You will need to take it out and it needs to go through separately.

Let me get this straight..I plan to take a carryon bag with 2 digital cameras, a laptop, & a portable photo-printer....if I understand correctly I will have to remove everything from the carry-on and place in seperate bins & okay to go thru x-ray? What about the memory cards for the cameras....should be hand checked or can it go through?? I appreciate all help as I haven't flown in over a year & rarely before that...BIG thanks, Ruthie :confused3

Digital cameras stay in your bag, laptop needs to be scanned separately. Memory cards will not be harmed. Photo printer stays in the bag.

No problem. It's only a small camcorder and no big deal to pull out.

I definately understand that. I'm just video taping at home to get our son's reaction. DH is already down there and was disappointed that he is missing the look on DS4's face when I tell him where he is going. At least this way he gets to see it and we have a priceless memory :goodvibes

2 days & counting!!! :cloud9: :woohoo: :cool1:

I appreciate your fast answers ( as always ) you helped me & countless others no doubt :thumbsup2

Only video cameras that use analog tape cartridge media need to be removed from their cases and placed separately on the belt like laptops do. Digital camcorders and digital cameras can remain in the bags.
