Hi
Has anyone gone through an airport scanner with an artificial joint? I'm travelling with someone who is going with a hip replacement for the first time. Wondering what to expect in regard to delays and procedures.
Thanks for the info.

My DH has had a hip replacement since 2001. He usually sets off the alarm and has been wanded and patted down. He does carry a card from his dr. but no one ever looks at it. He is getting used to the extra attention!

I just tell them as I walk through that I am going to beep- and they get someone to do the wand. They always ask what is replaced- ( I have both hips replaced)It does take a little extra time- but not much!

You should have something on hand from a Dr. that states about your joint. It won't be any big deal though...think about how many people have joint replacements.

Just went thru security at Chicago Midway Airport on Saturday. I have a knee replacement and a big toe joint replacement and always set it off. Normally they take me to the side and wand me. This time they took me to the side and patted me down, no wand. The said that the are not using the wand any more.

This has been reported on other travel boards recently.

Did you get a full body patdown or just in the area of your lower leg and foot?
