We do not fly much and haven't flown since 9/11 so all the security checks are welcomed, yet new to us.

I was just wondering if I need to show ID for my children at the security check point? I know my DH and I can use our drivers licenses, but my DD is 8 and DS 6 and all I have would be their social security cards or birth certificates --- no picture ID.

Thanks for your help!

We've flown with DS (age 7 now) 3x since 9/11, and while I have never been asked for ID, I always bring a copy of his Birth Certificate, just in case. But Gail is correct, under 18, no photo ID is required.

My youngest DD is over 18, but is disabled and can't drive, so her only ID was her high school ID. They took that, no problem.

SueM in MN, just an FYI. I don't know about MN, but in IL, you can get a state i.d. card if you don't want/can't get a driver's license. In IL, it looks just like a license, but just says "State I.D." where "Driver's License" would be. Your daughter may want/need i.d. for situations other than going to the airport. You should check into it.
