Airport hotels or not?

I just booked a one night stay at the Holiday inn near the airport here in Boston. It will be about $95 but I think it is worth it to not have to deal with unpredicatable weather, an insane neighbor with a bad driving record being counted on to drive us to the airport at 5 am on a saturday , and other annoyances that come with trying to get to the airport when you live about an hour away from it.

What do you all think, are airport hotels worth the extra cost? My SO seems to think it was a waste of our trip funds, and doesn't understand why I'm uncomforatble with our neighbor driving us.

Now granted, I am a little hard on said neighbor. He hasn't had a major accident in a while and he drives an SUV that handles well in the snow.

But I don't know...I just feel better at the hotel.

Is $95 worth my sanity? Or am I just being crazy?

I think you're a little crazy SAYING it's because you don't like your neighbors driving. I agree with your decision BUT I'd give other reasons (sleep later, more relaxing, I don't want to impose on a friend etc.)

I think it is the best decision always for early morning flights out of Logan to get a room close to the airport - but thta being said, I live an hour out. We stayed at the Hyatt many times for much more money in order to insure that we would be at the airport in plenty of time. There are just too many unpredictables and the lines at Logan for morning flights are way too hard to predict. I haven't flown out of BOS since the tunnel was finished and many tell me it is no big deal driving in any more but I think I would still get a room if I had an early morning flight. The Holiday Inn is nice too - it is a bit of a hop skip and a jump to the airport, though.

So, if your true concern is the neighbor and their driving - who is going to drive you to the hotel? Or will you take your own car and use the hotel parking fees? Many of the hotels will give you a rate that includes parking - but it is not the same rate you will get for just a room. Make sure you are looking at all costs for the hotel stay.

We've stayed at that Holiday Inn 3 times so far for early am flights. We LOVE the "Park and Fly" option as we like having our own car nearby to get home. We paid $149 plus tax last time and they will keep your car for up to 10 days at that rate. That includes the parking at the hotel and the one night's stay. That is much cheaper than Logan's parking fees!

I don't think the Holiday Inn is very far away. 5 minutes. Better than our 1 hour drive in the AM!! I looked into the Hyatt but it was just too expensive and I have no problems with the Holiday Inn.

So I say it's totally worth it as long as you aren't also paying to park at the airport on top of the hotel charges.

That is a good question. We are trying to arrange to leave our car with family & take the T in on Friday night. I'd even be okay with crazy neighbor driving in the evening , before he starts out on his Friday night party binge...
