I'm sitting at the airport, trying to get my flight rerouted. We are supposed to be flying from Baltimore to Montreal with a stopover in Newark. An hour ago, Continental decided to cancel the flight to Newark. An hour and a half ago, we were leaving the house to get to the airport (Friday, DC traffic) Even though we had given them our pager numbers, email and cell phone numbers, they didn't notify us.
I don't understand how if I decide to cancel or change my trip 2 weeks before I'm suppose to leave, at best I can get credit with the airline.. and in almost all cases I have to pay a penalty to make any changes, and a higher price if the cost of the ticket has gone up..... but the airline can decide to cancel the ENTIRE flight 2.5 hours before it is supposed to leave when everyone is on their way to the airport and not notify them? and they don't have to do a thing, and they certainly don't have to pay me a penalty!
I can't understand how an industry can take such a drastic action that affects so many customers.. and not have adequate back up equipment (planes!) and a backup plan. The weather here is sunny, the weather in newark is gorgeous, and the weather in montreal is chilly but clear. If the weather out west is bad, shouldn't they be able to pull a plane from somewhere else??
So, right now they are saying the earliest they can get us up there is Wednesday.. incidentally the same day we are supposed to come home.
