I was wondering if there are any added airport fees for Orlando and Burlington Int.?
The reason I'm asking is that the last time I flew out of Montreal the aiport charged me a fee for using their airport (this fee had nothing to do with my ticket.) I just don't want any surprises like the last time.
Thanks so much!

i think everytime you land at an airport there is a "fee" involved. thats why non-stop flights are the best deal. the less stops the less fee involved

I believe what the original poster is asking will they have to hand money over to someone AT THE AIRPORT for those particular airports.

I know you DO NOT have to do this at Orlando Airport. I have actually NEVER heard of this at any US airport.

Now there are fees for checking luggage for most carriers and you do pay that fee for most carriers right at the airport, but an actual airport usage fee that you have to pay at the airport, I don't think so.

I'd be very surprised if the OP handed over money when flying out of Dorval/Trudeau (the Montreal airport, which changed names about 6 years ago, but I still think of as Dorval). I've flown out of there many times over many years (the last time was in May) and have never heard of such a thing. I don't recall it ever happening at Mirabel either, for that matter (now defunct, but used to the International airport in Montreal). Actually, I've never heard of it at any Canadian (or US) airport.

A fee added to the ticket - absolutely. But no fee at the time departure.

You don't have to pay out of pocket for the Airport Improvement Fee in Montreal any longer, but you did at one time. This was required when the fee was first introduced in 1997 and for several years, until 2003. Now it is part of the fees included in your tickets. (FYI, it's $25 now out of Montreal).

I remember doing this quite often when AIF's were first introduced in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver (Vancouver was almost 10 years of manual pay). It was actually quite a pain, because it was a two price system in Edmonton initially, so you had to go to a separate desk, show your ticket to show where you were going, then pay the prices, keep your ticket to get on the plane to prove you had paid.

Much simpler when it went on the ticket. Of course now that it is part of the ticket they hike it and the consumer never knows the difference.

Bottom line is you don't have to pay an out of pocket fee in Orlando either.

I stand corrected.

Now that you mention it, I do remember it in Vancouver in about 1998/1999.

Also, now that I think about it, I'm often connecting through Montreal, so I would likely have skipped the fee (I know I skipped the fee when connecting through Vancouver - just had to show proof of a connection within a maximum length).

That's it....the Airport Improvment Fee. I'm happy to hear that other airports didn't adopt this ridiculous fee:cool1: (or at least that they have worked their fees into the tickets). There are enough uncertainties on a vacation without having to worry about airports demanding a fee before you board:)
Thanks so much!!!:woohoo:

Airport Improvement Fees are common at major airports in Canada and they are paid at the airport. Most U.S. airports have something called a Passenger Facility Charge which can be up to $4.50 per airport that you depart from. These are always added to the ticket price and paid along with other taxes at the time of purchase, bundled into the total price paid for the ticket. A round trip involving 2 nonstop flights could only have 2 PFC's included whereas a round trip that involves a connection could have 4 PFS's, since 4 flights are involved.

While the AIF is common at major Canadian Airports, none of them are paid at the airport (a few very small airports may collect at the airport but none of the major ones). They are all added to ticket cost and collected and remitted by the airline.

A sample of AIF's (all collected by the airline) Vancouver ($15), Calgary ($22), Edmonton ($20), Regina ($15), Winnipeg ($20), Toronto ($25 orig, $8 connnect), Ottawa ($15), Montreal-Trudeau ($25), Quebec City ($25), Halifax ($15)
