Okay I am thinking we want to avoid LAX, so what other choices do I have and how will I get to my hotel without renting a car. Do they all offer shuttles to DL? How do I found out how much it will be? Thanks

If you're flying internally then you could look at John Wayne (SNA) or Longbeach.

I've flown into SNA last year and it was a really nice airport to use - very quick and easy. It had plenty of shuttles available - I use the DIsneyland Express that takes you to your hotel and also picks you up from your hotel as well and costs about $25 for a round trip (per person).

DH and I use to fly into SNA (John Wayne) when we lived on the west coast. It's a smaller airport, but much more convienent! As for transportation we would either take a cab or shuttle to our hotel.

In my opinion LAX is tolerable if you don't need to drive there, so my comment to a different thread yesterday would work here:

Unless you're planning on seeing other sights in the area you might reconsider and take the Disneyland Express (not the same as WDW's Magical Express). I live around here and still hate to drive to/from LAX. YMMV - i.e. run the numbers for your party and see if it makes sense. Mousesavers $3 off coupon <= here.

The advantage to LAX is that you can often get much better fares going there, and if you don't need to drive there it's not so bad. YMMV

I very much agree.

I would go another step, b/c apart from our leaving waaaaaay too late and not finding out *ahead of time* where the closest gas station was, driving from and to LAX in the rental wasn't bad at all (apart from frightening southern CA driving). I would say that *as long as you aren't dropping someone off or picking someone up*, LAX is OK. My opinion is very different from the prevailing one, though. But it's always been pleasant for us. We fly either Alaska or Virgin America, and it's been fine.

The *only* issue is that if you are taking Disneyland Express, and you're getting in during the "once an hour" pickup time of day, it can be almost 2 hours before you're at Disney, depending on how close you miss the last bus and have to wait for the next one.

I've flown into Ontario, hated it. Did it to save a buck, but didn't realize SuperShuttle charges a big premium there. Either lost money or came out even to SNA with that one.

I have fallen in love with Long Beach, as it lets me Jetblue to where-ever, is only a few miles further drive than LAX and is a smaller airport and very easy to navigate!

I reiterate looking at this thread, as well. It gives you an overview of all the airports, the distance to DLR, and the major shuttle options (and their costs) for each major airport. It's really handy when you're trying to compare airflight prices. As in, would flying into LAX for $100 save us more money than flying into John Wayne for $125. You might discover (depending on the number of people in your party, number of kids needing booster seats, time of day) that the more expensive John Wayne tickets would end up costing less with the ground transportation costs. So, give the thread a look (I find it useful to print it out) when looking at your flight options.

I agree. Longbeach Airport is great. Its small, easy to get around and if im not mistaken one of the major roads outside the airport runs strait to Disneyland. Cant rememeber if its Katella or Ball but I believe its only about a 15 minutes drive and strait shot right to the resort. We always go to longbeach but we usualy drive around a bit sight seeing when we get there before heading to the hotel.

Yes, straight shot on Wardlow Road, which becomes Ball Road at the LA County/Orange County border.
