Does anyone know if you can check your luggage through to your flight when you get off the boat? We have some time before our flight and we want to rent a car but I am worried about having to cart all of our luggage along.

that depends on the airline you are flying on. I flew AA and they were right outside the cruise terminal waiting for us. All we did was give them our last names and the AA agent had our boarding passes and seating assignments ready. Then the AA guys took all 5 of our checked luggage and loaded them into the truck. We never saw our bags until we arrived home. So the answer is yes, there are airlines who will come to the cruise terminal to take your bags. I recall US Airways & Continental had reps there. Not sure which others but definitely American. This was really a plus because we didn't have to drag our 5 bags & 1 carryon plus 2 small kids around the airport for 5 hours while we waited for our flight to depart.

I seem to remember that DCL had somewhat recently changed the policy so that you could only check baggage at the port if you had purchased disney transfers, but I'm not sure. If you have Disney transfers, many of the airlines are there. It depends on how many cruisers will be flying which airlines (the more cruisers flying that airline, the more likely that they will be at the port). Usually most of the major carriers are there.

You can only check bags at the port if you've purchased Disney Transfers. If you have not, you will not be allowed access to the airport check-in area. They now check your KTTW Card when you approach the area to ensure you've purchased port to MCO transfers before allowing you into the area.

If you have purchased transfers you can check your bags at the port. If you have a flight prior to 12:30PM, you must disembark prior to 8:00AM or you won't be able to check-in at the port. The airlines available at the port are: American, Delta, Continental, US Airways and Northwest.

That stinks! How much are Disney transfers?

They are $49 per person for those 3 and up roundtrip from MCO. I believe the one way price (either to/from the airport) is $26 per person for those 3 and up.

jel0511 is correct. We just got back from a 7-day DCL and there are four airlines (AA, United, US Air and I believe Northwest) who have booths set-up for direct baggage check-in. They tag the bags and put them on a truck to go to Orlando International. However, you must use a Disney transfer for this service. With 8 of us, it was cheaper to use a limo service and curbside check-in, even with 12 bags!

Can someone explain the procedure if you are not on one of those airlines, but do have Disney transfers? We are on Southwest, but using Disney transfers to/from the airport.

Thanks!

Delta is not at the port anymore? I always thought they were.

I thought Delta was there in September of this year.....we flew AA but were able to use the check in service at the port even though we did not have DCL transers....but I think they let that rule slide because this was one of the delayed hurricane cruises and everyone's plans were messed up in regards to transportion....so I think they let anybody use the check-in service.

I saw Delta at the Port on the 11/6 cruise so they are still there. If you're traveling on an airline that doesn't participate in the port check-in process, your bags will be loaded onto the DCL bus and you and your bags will be transported on the bus. You are dropped off on Level 1 of the airport, so you have to get your bags upstairs by yourself (check-in is on level 3). Just run inside and go up to level 2 and grab a luggage cart, though I think I remember a porter or two downstairs, but I'm not sure.

Edited to add: If you are traveling on an airline that doesn't participate in port check-in, you don't have to worry about your bags when you arrive at MCO, if arriving the day of sailing. Just make sure DCL has your flight information, and you've affixed the yellow DCL tags to your luggage. DCL will get your bags for you and have them delivered to your stateroom, you do not have to claim them at MCO, regardless of airline you're flying. The only difference is when you disembark the ship, you can't check-in at the port, you must check-in at the airport.

We are planning on purchasing the disney transfers to and from MCO. My son will be 2 and 1/2 at the time. Will his disney transfer be free? If anyone knows please respond.
Thanks! :flower1:

When we sailed when DS was 1 1/2, we were not charged for his transfers, so I'm assuming any child under 3 who doesn't pay a cruise fare is free. We were advised that since DS didn't pay for transfers, he was considered a "lap child" for the bus. Which meant we had to hold him during the ride to/from the port.

Let me get this straight. When we cruised last January, we arranged our own limo rides to/from the Port, but were able to still check our bags with Delta upon disembarkation.

Now you can only do this with Disney transfers between Orlando airport and the Port. But the transfer fee includes both your transportation and the baggage check, or this is an extra fee charged just to transfer your bags?

They have cracked down since last year. I believe if you purchase any leg of transfer thru DCL you would be able to check your bags upon disembarking....but not if you are arranging your own transportation from the port. The PP cost for a one-way DCL transfer from ship to MCO or WDW would be $25.00 (that would include the baggage service at the port).

You actually have to purchase port to airport transfers to utilize the check-in service at Port Canaveral. The keys are encoded with different codes, which represent which transfers you've purchased. There is no additional fee to check your bags at the port, it is included in the transfer cost. I did tip the airline employee who tagged my bags and placed them on the truck, just like I would any porter at the airport.

I want to rent a car but it would be worth $25 to get to check the luggage for all of our party. Has anyone tried that?

I believe you have to buy transfers for all members of your party, not just one.
