Well, with a 2.5 hour trip, at least with my family, there's barely enough time to get involved with something!
That's what I was going to say, LOL. My 5 year old brings his iPod (movies and music), his DSi, headphones, and some paper and crayons - sometimes in his own backpack or something just tossed in my bag. The iPod gets the most use though. When we've traveled without checking bags, I just bring his iPod for him and between the ascent/descent excitement and food/drink service excitement, that more than fills the time on a 2.5 hour flight. And my kid is not normally the easily self-entertained type.
