Hello everyone,
When I spoke to the airmiles rep. the other day, she encouraged me to also buy insurance from them, saying that insurance from elsewhere may not be adequate for airmiles trip cancellation and I could lose my airmiles value. She said it would cost approx. $200 for 10 days for the 4 of us (myself, 2 teens and 1 child) and that it covered everything I would need (trip cancellation, medical, etc.) What have your experiences been? Did you purchase airmiles insurance or insurance elsewhere? Does the cost sound okay to you? At present we have an aerogold visa; my husband thinks we have insurance through our aerogold visa, so I guess I can check that too. I don't know if they would recognize airmiles.:cool1:

Also, I'm wondering how a person books magical express - when we book our All Star Disney resort, do we (or a TA) just tell them our flight number, etc.?

Thanks very much in advance to anyone able to respond!!

I used airmiles for plane tickets last Christmas, and they encouraged me to get the insurance. They said if we couldn't make the flight, for any reason whatsoever (weather, traffic, illness, etc) they would rebook us for free on any flight that had an open seat, regardless if it was an airmiles seat or not. So it was a bit better than our regular insurance through the credit card, which does not cover things like traffic jams. Our trip was to BC to my family, so we declined the medical part. But I do remember it was about $60 just for the cancellation insurance, and that was per ticket.

As to Magical Express we have either called Disney or entered our flight info online - but we book ourselves online. I imagine your travel agent can take care of it for you. It's a great service, so nice to skip the baggage claim.

We had the same dilemma about insurance when we used out airmiles to book our flights. We also have travel insurance through our mastercard, but were told by airmiles that the insurance may not be adequate for us to get our airmiles back. I called mastercard and asked them about the specific insurance that we have. The rep I talked to told me that, although we would not get our airmiles back, we would be reimbursed for the value of our flight, so long as the portion of the flight that we paid for (taxes, etc) had been put on our mastercard. My DBF called as well and got the same response. So we declined the insurance through airmiles. I recommend calling and seeing what the credit card company says.

Re: Magical Express, I called Disney reservations to have our flight info added (I would have done it online, but the website was down).
