Airmiles & Best Western

Has anyone used the Best Western gift cards available thru airmiles in the US? It states that the cards are in CDN$ but you can use them worldwide?

Also, has anyone booked free nights at Best Western thru airmiles? How many points? BW Park Place @ DL - is booked solid - our usual place. Looking at BW Raffles Inn.

I have used Best Western gift cards with out problem in the US they just treat them as a credit card On our trip to DL we stayed at Best Western Courtesy Inn on W Ball Road it is less than a 5 min walk through the parking garage to get the parking lot tram . I found that the card was a better deal than using airmiles to book the room directly .

We have done it twice with the gift cards and then paid the difference since we only had $50 cards.

On our last trip we had a problem with bad (lazy) BW staff though. They said they couldn't take the card for some sort of system reason. We called the BW 1-800 number and they informed us they should take the card no matter what, and if they were having difficulties they could call in and be walked though what to do. We went back to the front desk and told them this and magically they could take the card.

We used some last year at the BW in DTD. We had no problems!

We have used the BW gift cards and just put the value of the cards towards the cost of the room. The Air Miles rep told me it is much better value to use the gift cards then book a room with airmiles since you can book the room yourself potentially with a discount (CAA etc) whereas they value the room at rack rate. If BW is not available AirMiles has plans with Holiday Inn and Sheraton also..we stayed at the Sheraton in Santa Monica and used AirMiles for it.

Thanks, everyone. I think we'll just go with the giftcards. I've already booked BW Raffles via internet with CAA discount. We are on the BW rewards program, so would lose out on getting the points with that, if we book the rooms thru airmiles. Plus, we have to cancel for some reason, I still have the cards for a future trip.
